2012 Topgun Invitees Announced

Twenty-three of the country’s best greyhounds have been handed first round nominations for the – this year worth $150,000 to the winner – to be run at The Meadows on October 27.

The Topgun panel will meet again on Friday, October 12, to cut the field down to eight from the list of trainers who have accepted the first round invitation sent out today.

The field for the ‘Cox Plate of greyhound racing’ will then be announced on Sky Racing’s The Catching Pen on Monday, October 15, with a box draw to be held on track at The Meadows on Saturday, October 20 – a week before one of the most anticipated nights of greyhound racing on the calendar.

Trainer is best represented with four invitees (El Brooklyn, Godsend, and Peggy May), while the kennel has a trio vying for a spot in the final eight (Grigorieva Bale, Heston Bale and Spud Regis).

Manager Marg Long said the 23 nominees again lived up to expectations and makes for a quality laden final which will be run in under four weeks’ time.

“This year’s list of invitees is again very high in quality, with the major difference being that this year’s event is worth $150,000 to the winner for the first time in the race’s 19-year history.”

“As always, patrons on course for the October 27 extravaganza will have the chance to win some amazing prizes, including AFL memberships, bikes for the children, TAB giveaways and entertainment for all ages in what has become one of the biggest nights at The Meadows,” said Long.
