AGRA’s for October 2008 is Victorian star sprinter El Galo.

It is his second monthly award after winning in March he has continued on his amazing year with an outstanding performance to win the Top Gun. It was his first Group one after finishing second in and third in the Paws Of Thunder at level.

Beginning like a bullet as he usually does the race was in his keeping early on and he never gave his supporters a reason for concern registering new record splits of 4.94 and 17.50 to romp to victory by 5 ½ lengths in 29.75 beating Regal Thyme and One Tree Hill who was a further 2 ¼ lengths away in third.

With the winner running amazing sectionals out in front, it was always going to be hard for anyone behind El Galo to run him down, and although those behind him tried valiantly the victor was never really in doubt.

El Galo just knocked off One Tree Hill for the monthly award both won a Group 1 and both finished third in another it was the way in which El Galo beat the hand-picked field that got him the nod. Other contenders for the month included Group 2 winners Fallen Zorro, Others Quoted, Bogie Blue, Miss , and Turanza Bale.

El Galo’s win his second may see him gain an edge with one award left before the AGRA is decided in March 2009. El Galo joins Knocka Norris, , , Chinatown Lad, , Whippy’s Image and Just Friends as the previous AGRA Greyhound of the month winners in 2008.

El Galo is a blue dog whelped November 2005 by Where’s Pedro from Roxy Reason (Malawi’s Prince x Playground) raced by Seona Hood and trained by Jason Thompson he has raced 48 times for 29 wins and 13 placings, adding the Top Gun’s first prize of $100,000 his overall stake earnings went to $302,930.
