Greyhound racing’s girls to step out in Ladies Bracelet heats
FOUR heats of the Group 3 Ladies Bracelet (520m) are set to be held at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, open to the best 32 female greyhounds, plus reserves.
The series has attracted a strong bunch of greyhounds in pursuit of the $25,000 winner's cheque on May 7, 2016.
The $8 favourite with Bet365's all-in market to take out next week's final is Star Torana for Shaun Evans. The black bitch will jump from box six in the second heat, having won three of her past four at headquarters coming into the race, with a 29.81 win off box five last start sure to put her in contention.
Dean Swain has been having a stack of success in town of late and he will be hoping to continue the trend with Miss Foxy Lee in heat three. The black bitch has drawn box one in her qualifier and is on the second line of betting to win the decider at $8.50.
Sharing the $8.50 quote is the classy Mitcharlie Mia, which returns to Wentworth Park for the first time since finishing down the track in last month's Group 1 Golden Easter Egg final.
The market then drifts out to double figures, with $10 on offer for both Fantastic Sky and All A Blaze.
The first two from each heat will progress through to the final, to be run next Saturday night in the Harbour City.
Group 3 Ladies Bracelet – heat one – 8:50pm
Sheza Keen Size ($3 with Bet365) is the favourite to take out the first heat of the night, with the daughter of Head Bound and Surf Queen set to jump from box four. Trained by Peter Ruetschi, Sheza Keen Size comes into the race having finished third in the Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity at Albion Park last start, and has a solid record of four wins from eight starts wearing the blue rug. Making her debut at Wentworth Park in this series, but has had over two weeks off since her last start so is likely to have had a look at the track.
Megaladon ($3) generally shows a fair bit of pace and should be suited with a slow beginner on her inside, however she will have to miss Quiet Brilliant ($8.50) early which can show pace and is drawn in the seven.
Twist Me Over ($6.50) has an incredible record from the inside so is perfectly drawn to feature in this event. She has won four over the track and trip with a sizzling 5.37 first section, if she can reproduce that early she should lead for a long way.
Group 3 Ladies Bracelet – heat two – 9:15pm
Star Torana ($2.60) is racing in top form at present and will be hard to stop with a clear run. She hasn't fared too well with the box draw but she should be assisted with a slick beginner drawn on her direct inside.
Fantastic Skye ($2.80) is a group 2 winner and she has been racing consistently of late, having finished in the top three in her past 14 starts. She isn't the best of beginners but she is suited by the inside draw and will be aiming to push up along the fence early and take control heading through the first bend.
Speed should be coming from both Virouette ($8) and Pipper Pepper ($12 with Bet365), with the latter one to watch despite drawing box five after a slick 29.79 win over the track and trip last weekend.
Suzi Cargo ($10) is another which is racing well, having finished second in the lucrative Dubbo Gold Cup last start.
Group 3 Ladies Bracelet – heat three – 9:35pm
Another quality race and if All A Blaze ($3 with Bet365) can bring her Dubbo form to town she will hard to beat. She captured the Dubbo Gold Cup on Monday night recording a blistering 29.39 over the 516m trip and she is well drawn in box two. Has run 30.07 here in the past but looks capable of improving on that time with a clear run.
Miss Foxy Lee ($2.70) is the obvious threat after winning two of her past three at headquarters in 29.60. If she reproduces either of those runs it is hard to see anything beating her and she should get every chance to position up well in the early stages off box one.
Good Odds Angel ($5.50) returned to her best with a stunning 22.49 Richmond win last start and she will be looking to lead all the way again in this race. Beautifully boxed in the seven to circle the field and run away with the prize.
Natahli Dedee ($6.50) is usually a swift beginner and should be up there early, while Karma Connie ($12) steps back to the 500 after three consecutive middle distance wins – will probably get back early but is capable of running on and should go well high on confidence.
Group 3 Ladies Bracelet – heat four – 9:57pm
Mitcharlie Mia ($3) is the class runner of the race. The Richmond Oaks winner finished down the track in the Golden Easter Egg two starts back before taking a tumble in a race at Lismore just over two weeks ago. If her mind isn't affected by the fall she should be very hard to beat.
If Mystic Quality ($13) reproduces her 5.39 first split from her last start she should be the leader off box one and will be aiming to pinch the race on the bunny. Will probably need to find a bit on the clock to hold out some of her rivals but she should be in the race for a long way.
Megsie Marble ($3 with Bet365) should get a nice run into the race if she can slot in behind the one. The daughter of High Earner and Secret Marble is unbeaten in four starts including an electrifying 29.54 Dapto run three starts back. This is obviously a steep rise in class but she is drawn to run well.
Dokmai ($4.50) finished down the track in the Group 2 Queensland Futurity last start. Has been freshened up for this so should run well, but is drawn awkwardly and can't afford to give this lot too big of a start.
