8DIRECT HIT [M]3NBTR Redenbach (Cranbourne)

Tough race to kick start the night but I think the well bred Direct Hit can improve on his luckless debut effort here last week. After getting away on terms he showed a great turn of foot and while vying for the early lead he kept making contact with the runner underneath. From the pink draw he should get room to muster soon after box rise and he should be able to get a much cheaper lead this week.

Arisia Bale unwound a monster finish when narrowly beaten in her heat and she appears to be getting better with every run. She has been placed in her only two tries here and there doesn’t appear to be a lot of speed drawn around her. If she can get a clear run in the initial stages she should be there when it counts. Countess Juanita has been placed in five of her past six starts and like Arisia Bale, she hit the line very strongly in her heat. This race lacks depth and she won’t get a better chance to score. Allen Gundam could be the smokey in the event, his first section last week was the slowest of all the finalists but he powered to the line and was far from disgraced. If he can improve his box manners he can cause an upset.

7PHENOM BALE (NSW)[5]44324NBTT Womann (Lara)
8ALLEN KESSEL (NSW)[5]51262NBTA Dailly (Anakie)

Hetalia Bale is aiming for a hat trick of wins and she is drawn to get every chance. In her prior two wins she has bombed the start and had to overcome difficulties to score, now she steps up to the 515m trip and that should suit her down to the ground. From the red draw she should be able to anticipate the start a lot better and that should allow her to settle much closer to the speed. The runner drawn directly outside will also move wide as they approach the first turn so Hetalia Bale has everything going for her.

Magneto Bale is armed with a powerful finish and he recently caught the eye when scoring a slick 26.05 Warragul win. Obviously the box draw is a big disadvantage tonight but he is good enough to win after overcoming a few difficulties in the early stages. Enjoy Cruising will probably start the favourite and he should be in the finish if he can get away cleanly. My only concern with him is that Amber Blaze has an abundance of early speed and she might give the favourite a few problems in the early stages. Allen Kessel has been placed in three of four over this journey and he appears to be improving all the time, if he can get across in the first 50m he can make an impact on the scoreboard.

8MEPUNGA TIARA [4]2241142.46(6)J Britton (Anakie)

Mepunga Tiara has taken all before her in recent weeks and she is drawn to get the cash again. Last Saturday she captured the Group Two Distance Title at The Meadows and in the process she lowered the colours of star stayers Xylia Allen and Dyna Willow. Clearly there are no runners of that calibre in tonight’s event and she really should salute at the short odds. Her PB here of 42.46 is fairly average but she is a much better stayer this time around and she could easily run sub 42 seconds with a clear run.

Born Ali could be the value each way bet in the event, her form of late hasn’t been too crash hot but she did show good signs when placed here last week over the 595m trip. Outside of Mepunga Tiara this is a pretty weak affair and if she could recapture the form which saw her win here in 41.97 she would be right in the mix. Coral surprised me with her win at The Meadows last Saturday, normally she wins her races by pouncing on the lead and setting a cracking pace, however she back in the field and appeared to power to the line. On that effort she must be considered as one of the major players.

8DYNA WILLOW (NSW)[3]1142241.99(5)S Collins (Lara)

Dyna Willow is one of the nation’s premier stayers and after two runs back from a spell she should be primed to show her best. She went down narrowly in the Distance Championship at The Meadows last Saturday and tonight she returns to a more suitable track. From this pink draw she should get a clear run in the early stages and that should allow her to settle in the top three, she has broken 42 seconds here previously and I wouldn’t put a sub 41.70 run beyond her.

Tark’s Nemesis is drawn to hold the early lead and she was runner up in the Group One Sandown Cup Final in May. On that occasion she led for most of the trip and it took gun stayer to reel her in. If she can set a big lead again she will prove very hard to catch. Zipping Rory has been racing in consistent form of late and he must be treated as a threat based on his sizzling 41.83 win here last month. Bekim Hatrick can be hard to follow at times but he is well drawn out wide and he recently returned to form with a strong 31.23 Ballarat win.

8LIARA ALLEN (NSW)[5]11742FSTDS Collins (Lara)

This heat sees the return of two time Group One winner Sweet It Is and if she is at around 80% that should be enough for her to get the cash. Her record at this track is really good having won three of seven with a further two placings and in one those placings she actually broke the 42 second barrier. Being first up from a spell, she should be a lot sharper and that should allow her to settle a lot closer to the speed than she normally would. Outside of Blinker’s On there doesn’t appear to be much depth and she should get every chance to qualify for next week’s final.

Blinker’s On was unlucky in his staying debut last week but I think he was still a tad disappointing. His two wins here over 595m in June were super impressive and based on those efforts I’m willing to give him another chance. Infinite Wish has been racing in very consistent form of late and she has raced well here in the past. She is likely to settle back in the field but she has an uncanny knack of being able to weave her way through the field and she shouldn’t be too far away at the line.

Unfortunately the champ had her colours lowered last week at The Meadows but she is all class and she should tonight from the coveted rails draw. I would expect Looby Lu to lead tonight’s event and based on her sizzling 41.90 win here last week, she should give a great sight, however Xylia Allen should get the perfect sit on her and she will prove too strong in the run home. She has won seven of 10 from the rails draw and I would expect her to show a little more early dash than what she has been showing, she will be ridiculously short odds again but she does look to be a moral.

Looby Lu was highly impressive here last week and she should find the early lead again, however there is a little more depth in this week’s event and she will feel a lot more pressure in the run tonight. Shall She Rock is the interesting runner, after a slow start she powered to the line in last week’s win here and I think she will continue to improve with more racing over this journey. Zipping Maggie is another who will continue to improve on coming weeks and she must be included in your exotic bets tonight.

8MYSTIC TWIST [5]71443NBTM Cauchi (St Leonards)

My Bro Fabio was absolutely electrifying here last week and if he can go anywhere near the 33.94 he ran last week he should put a space in them. His box manners are always a worry but in recent times he has been a lot better and he is finding himself in a very prominent position early in his races. Another positive in tonight’s event is that he is drawn a lot closer to the rails and he has the luxury of fast beginners drawn inside and slow beginners drawn on his outside, therefore he should be afforded a very clear passage as they pass the post the first time.

Mystic Twist was far from disgraced when making her middle distance debut last week and she should be improved by that effort. From the pink she should get a clear run into the first bend and she should be vying for the lead in the middle stages, obviously if the favourite settles close then she is line for the quinella spot but if he finds trouble she can steal the prize. Ozzy Bale is much better than his recent form reads and he has raced well here previously, if he can get away cleanly he may give a great sight on the bunny. Kayo Marciarno is the run on dog and he is a great dog to anchor for third and fourth in your exotic bets.

Really tough race and I think it’s a field job in the quaddie. Whodat Knockin’ has been flying of late and I would expect him to start a short priced favourite, however he is very poorly drawn and I can see him finding a heap of trouble in the run. (Whodat Knockin’ scratched). Take Charge should lead them up but his last 50m is terrible and he would need to lead by five lengths off the back straight to hold on. Clone Your Own turned in a monster effort when winning here a fortnight ago and if he finds himself in the first three early then he can figure prominently.

Coconut Grove is my smokey in the event and at Ballarat last time he appeared to recapture some of his early dash, if he can reproduce that early dash tonight he might find himself in the top two as they head for the back straight and he is capable of running very on the bunny. Hostile was a brilliant 29.53 winner here recently and if he gains an ounce of luck early then he should be in the mix. Overall this is a ridiculously tough race and I would be looking for value.

Great race and we get to see two powerhouse chasers do battle in Phenomenal and All Strung Out. Phenomenal can be very hard to follow at times but being drawn fairly close to the rails gives him the edge tonight. Prior to his unlucky effort at , he had pinged the lids at Ballarat and scored a commanding 30.90 win, if he can show those box manners and produce that type of effort he may prove too zippy for All Strung Out.

All Strung Out is probably going to be a staying star in the future but he is still flying over the sprint trip. He has done most of his recent racing at The Meadows of late and that track doesn’t really suit his racing pattern. Sandown is a much better fit for him and if he can get a relatively clear run early he should be putting some pressure on Phenomenal at the business end. It’s hard to see anything outside of those two winning but Dyna Yenite has the good draw and I would expect him to lead for most of the trip. If you can’t split the two favourites, this bloke may be a great place bet.

8RINASH [5]6312334.68(3)G Laidlay (Devon Meadows)

Another tough race but I think the improving Why Not Wayne can get the cash. After a string of fair performances, he showed his true ability when placed over this trip last Sunday. On that occasion he stepped a lot better and after settling in the top three he made eventual winner Ima Fairytale work over time for victory. The most impressive part of that effort was the fact he kept coming on the line and he went down by less than three lengths in a blistering 34.13. If he reproduces that form he should make light work of this lot.

Rinash normally races best when on the bunny but last week he hit the line quite solidly after missing the kick. Tonight he should get a nice cart across from Miss Society early and I would expect him to be in the top two as they head off the back straight. I still question his ability to run a genuine 595m but if he turns for home in front he will prove hard to gun down. Miss Society is expected to set a cracking pace but she has been falling in a hole late in her races. I would expect her to tire again tonight but she must be included in your exotic bets. Allen Wake has been crying out for this trip and he has the ability to cause a boil over.

Lamia Bale caught everyone by surprise in the recent Maturity Classic series at The Meadows recently and I think she should continue to progress through the grades. Her biggest asset is her early speed and tonight she finds herself in a race which doesn’t feature a lot of quick beginners. If she can get away on terms I would expect her to cross quite easily and with the potential to run sub 29.60 she will prove too hard to reel in.

Lektra Hawk could be the value in the event and although beaten recently his efforts have been more than handy. He has won here previously in a sizzling 29.50 and if he can recapture some of his early speed he should be in the mix throughout. Ruff Cut Diamond scored a powerful 29.58 win here last Sunday and she is expected to start the favourite, my only concern with her is that she can be a little slow to begin at times and she may get shuffled back in the initial stages. Coulta Rock is poorly drawn tonight but he is highly talented and he should get a nice cart across from Lamia Bale in the early stages.

Race 12 – 515M Grade 5 – 10:52PM

Yakamov Bale has been racing in consistent style of late and he is bursting to break through here. Two starts ago he showed smart early speed before being run down in the closing stages and last week after a steady beginning he hit the line solidly for another minor placing. Tonight he should have no trouble crossing to the rail and this race doesn’t appear to have a lot of depth so he should get every chance to hold in the closing stages.

Deadly Boy is ideally drawn in the pink and Check My Swagger should bring him across in the early stages. He has won here previously in a sizzling 29.54 and if he can get through the first bend unscathed he should be there when it counts. Check My Swagger must be included in your exotic bets, he showed tremendous speed and led for most of the trip here last week. His last 50m is quite weak but if he crosses the yellow early he may give them something to catch.
