The Meadows tips, best bets & quaddie picks | 14/5 Preview
SOME quality 600m heats will take place at The Meadows on Saturday night as middle and long distance greyhounds look to book their place in next week’s final. Race one of the night begins at 6:35pm, while the last race finishes at 10:18pm. The first of the heats and the quaddie legs takes place in race five at 8:01pm. Here are our free The Meadows tips for Saturday, May 14, 2022.
BEST BET: JAVI (race 12)
WE will have to wait until the last race for our best bet but hopefully it is worth the wait.
Javi has the red box and should lead this field for a long way.
He turned four last month and has a lot of experience for Marlene Schmidt who does a great job with him.
The son of Kinloch Brae x Amelia Christa has racked up over $95,000 in prizemoney now which includes 16 wins, including an all the way win here on April 20 from box six.
A slight concern is that he has missed the jump slightly in his past couple of runs but that was from poor boxes in five and seven.
Even if he misses it slightly from box one, he has enough early burn to hunt up on the rails and still lead as boxes two, three and four aren’t gifted with early dash.
NEXT BEST: VANCE BALE (race 11)
REBECCA and Daniel Gibbons have two greyhounds in this race which have the potential to fight it out but we have gone with the box seven runner in Vance Bale due to his slightly better early splits. He just might pinch two or three lengths on them early. His win at Sandown Park on April 28 was excellent when leading all of the way in 29.58, and before that he proved that he can handle it at the tight The Meadows track by winning in 30.43 after slightly missing the jump.
Usually when this brindle dog leads, he wins.
VALUE BET: FABRIOLA ZERO (race 10)
BOXES seven and eight both have early speed in this event but we have gone with the box seven runner as we think she can cross the box six runner in Sir Chappy pretty easily and she may get the rails. Her run on April 30 here was very good when second (30.25) and a repeat of that time will go close to winning this. She won from this same draw on February 16 in 30.26 so box seven shouldn’t be an issue.
There are some quality runners in this, particular those from the two inside draws in Mumbo Alarm and My Boy Rockin’ so we will probably be looking for each-way odds. Fabriola Zero probably does need to lead to win, so here’s hoping.
