The 2024 National Straight Track Championship betting has seen one surprising runner crunched in odds, while one interstate visitor has drifted so badly that it may be a doubtful runner.

Since markets opened late on Monday, after the majority of greyhounds who were inclined to do so, had trialled up the Murray Bridge Straight track, the Group 3 National Straight Track Championship final betting market has been up and down like a fiddler’s elbow.

The largest move has been for the greyhound contesting his second consecutive National Straight Track Championship final after finishing last behind Unleash Collinda in the 2023 Group 3 National Straight Track Championship final at Healesville.

Dual National Straight Track Championship finalist, Cash On Delivery, had been kept very safe in betting for this year’s National Straight Track Championship opening as a +300 third favourite at greyhound bookmakers, after qualifying second behind So Be It in the .

Despite finishing runner-up behind So Be It, punters and online bookmakers have now made Cash On Delivery the Group 3 race favourite, firming in from the +300 quote to outright race favouritism at +160.

With a Murray Bridge Straight of 13 starts for nine wins and four second placings, plus a Murray Bridge Straight track 350 metres box eight record of three starts for two wins and a second, the move is not shocking, but the moves around others are.

Victorian representative and VIC National Straight Track Champion, Zipping Gryllis, has blown like the proverbial gale in greyhound betting for the race.

While the kennel elected not to trial Zipping Gryllis at Murray Bridge prior to Saturday morning’s final, the talented Group 2 placed greyhound, who is undefeated up the straight in four starts at Healesville, has drifted from a +380 fourth favourite out to +600 on the fifth line of betting.

At the same time, the first reserve greyhound, Agent Nineteen, has firmed up in betting from opening at +5000 to now be quoted at +4000 at the best Australian greyhound betting sites.

No doubt GRSA Stewards will be watching further greyhound betting movements around both very greyhounds closely.

But these aren’t the only betting moves around this year’s final.

The sole NSW representative in this year’s National Straight Track Championship final has been both hot and cold with punters and bookmaker’s alike.

, who has the advantage of box one, drifted early from his opening quote of +210 race favourite to get out to +250, has since been backed back in again, and is now currently the second favourite for the $28,000 to-the-winner final at +220.

Like the other greyhounds that have seen wild fluctuations, Express Ethics did not trial up the Murray Bridge Straight.

2024 SA National Straight Track Champion So Be It has also seen some support to win Saturday morning’s final.

So Be It opened as a +1500 chance to win the Group 3 final before being backed in to +1100 after Monday’s 19.43 trial, and is now sitting as a +1200 chance.

The Bosko Stamenkovic-trained So Be It solo trials in 19.43 up the Murray Bridge Straight over 350 metres Monday, August 19, 2024.

As a result of the volatility in the National Straight Track Championship market, all but one of the eight finalists have had their odds adjusted since the markets opened.

In addition to moves towards and away from Cash On Delivery, Zipping Gryllis, Express Ethics and So Be It, three other straight-track finalists have drifted.

Queensland National Straight Track Champion Hara’s Buddy, has drifted from +500 out to +550 on the best greyhound betting apps.

Fellow Queenslander Sheezel has drifted from +3300 out to +4000 despite a more than handy Murray Bridge Straight track trial.

Victorian representative, Mile A Minute, has drifted from being a +250 second favourite to being on the third line of betting at +300.

Only outsider has stayed steady at his +5000 quote.
