Incident Information

The Bunyip Ridge fire is burning in the Bunyip State Park and State Forest areas between Gembrook, Powelltown, Neerim Junction and Tonimbuk and is estimated to be approximately 25,000 hectares in size.

Residents in the general Gembrook area no longer need to remain on alert, as lighter overnight conditions will result in reduced fire activity. With expected easterly winds tomorrow, they will still experience smoke in the area from ongoing blacking out and back burning operations.

People in the area will still need to remain vigilant, and should continue listening to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire.

There may be increased amounts of smoke in the area from this fire.
Road users are advised to take extra care as road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility from smoke.
Even though this fire does not currently pose a threat, people in high risk bushfire areas are reminded to have a bushfire survival plan ready to implement during the summer period.

Additional Information
Control lines are currently being established and secured on the Nth Eastern and Nth Western sectors of this fire.
Overnight conditions, including increased relative humidity, and light easterly winds, are expected to assist in suppression efforts.
East/Stheasterly winds are expected on , strengthening from 15 – 30kmh in the morning, and easing off in the afternoon.
