Group 2 Black Top winner and (MDC) finalist French Martini has begun her 2022 Group 1 Topgun campaign in earnest with a solo trial between races at last Saturday night.

Trialling between races two and three from box three on a race night track that was not particularly fast, the -trained greyhound ran splits of 5.15, and 17.76 on the way to a trial time of 27.72.

To put the run in to perspective, the best of the night over the 525m was Bale who came from behind to win race seven in 29.89. The best early split of the night was 5.07 set by Lala Grapefruit in race 11.

Heading toward the 30th running of the The Topgun, the daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Shez My Chicki was right on her winning Black Top winning weight of 28.3 as she had her first look at The Meadows circuit.

There is no doubt the New South Wales visitor will be one of the first selected for The Topgun after she appeared to handle the circuit extremely well, only putting in one or two missteps through the corners for the first time.

If improvement is to come from anywhere it would from French Martini's early split of 5.15, which would appear to be at least 0.10 slower than a greyhound with her early speed from the boxes would be capable of.
