Gilbert Given 12 Months For Positive Swab

today conducted an into analyst's reports that the urine sample taken from prior to that greyhound running second in Race 5 at the meeting on 1 June 2009, contained the prohibited substance .

Evidence was taken from trainer Ms Jodie Gilbert, who was granted leave to be assisted by trainer Mr .

Further evidence was taken from trainer Mr Raymond Dixon, Ms Hayley Gilbert and from ARFL Acting Scientific Director Dr Andrew McKinney.

Written evidence was entered from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory, Queensland Government Racing Science Centre and ARFL Senior Veterinarian Dr Craig Suann.

Ms Gilbert subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (2) (a) in that she presented Cawbourne Tuf for the race in question not free of any prohibited substance as the urine sample taken from the greyhound was found to contain dexamethasone.

After considering submissions on penalty Ms Gilbert was disqualified for a period of twelve months, until 25 September 2010, and fined $1100. The commencement of the disqualification was deferred until 26 September 2009 due to her personal circumstances.

In determining penalty Stewards took into account her guilty plea as well as the personal circumstances detailed in her submissions.

Consideration was also given to Ms Gilbert's record in relation to this Rule, the nature of the substance involved, previous penalties in relation to the rule and particular substance, and the effects that such have on the image of greyhound racing.

Under Greyhound Racing Rule 83 (5) Cawbourne Tuf was disqualified from the event on 1 June and the placings amended to:

1st – Come On Izzi
2nd – Black Bolter
3rd – Eva Destruction

As this was the first event of a series which concluded on 6 June 2009, Cawbourne Tuf, which again placed second, was disqualified from Race 7 on 6 June and the placings amended to:

1st – Come On Izzi
2nd – Tumble Speed
3rd –

Ms Gilbert was advised of her rights of appeal.
