Jarrick Scores A Casino Double

Goonellabah greyhound conditioner Don Jarrick had arguably one of his best days in the training ranks when he landed a double at last Friday's meeting.

He was successful in two of the maiden races with Select State winning over the 411 metres, and over 484 metres. Both are owned by prominent Queensland identity Jim Osborn, and showed the ability to go on and win more races. Select State got a rails run in the back straight to take up the front running before winning by 1 1/4 lengths in 23.57, whilst Price State led all of the way clocking 28.19.

Charlie Northfield must check the fields very carefully each week to see if his charge has box four. All of his career wins have come from this box, and he did it again on Friday when he came with a late run to get the prize. The early leader Katakolo looked to have the race in his keeping when he set up a big break, but Ronny kept on coming to win by 3/4 length. His time of 27.77 was just outside his personal best.

The most convincing winner on the day was Glen Northfield's who won by 13 3/4 lengths. She came out running from box five, and relished the soft conditions to romp away with the affair. In running 27.88, she easily eclipsed her former best time of 28.03. One of her greatest fans was former trainer Darrell Sattler who sadly passed away earlier in the week. Perhaps there was some divine intervention in the victory.

Reserve runner who came from box three, led and just lasted to run 28.18 for Rob Andrews, while scored a very “gutsy” win in the Casino RSM Club Free For All. She defied all attempts to run her down and got in by head in 27.96. trains her at Crystal Creek.

Darren Russell is having a good run with his team, and he also landed a double. Token Sentence got clear down the back and made a big run to gather in the leaders on the home bend winning by 2 1/4 lengths in 23.48. Later won the distance stake by 3 1/4 lengths in 35.84.

The “lucky last” wasn't so lucky for some when the 12/1 shot Bobalong Friend saluted for . After a moderate beginning, it was a top effort to tackle the well preformed Settlement down the side, and he went on to win by 3 1/2 lengths in 23.30.
