Lord Howe’s Impressive Gosford Maiden Win

A wet night at last Tuesday, but still a good nights racing with some recorded.

The opening race a 400m Maiden was taken out in scintillating fashion by . Originally drawn as first reserve, Lord Howe gained a start from box 1 and bounced straight on the bunny to record a very smart 23.05 with a fast first section of 10.79. Owned and trained by of Gwandalan, Lord Howe was having only his second race start and looks to have plenty of ability.

Laurie's Placard, owned by and trained at Killcare by John Miles made it four wins on the trot and eight wins from just thirteen starts when he took out the 400mt NG Grange Hotel Final. Only moderately away Laurie's Placard got to second leaving the back and then proved far too strong in the run home to beat the speedy Be Bossee by 11/2lens in a smart 23.24.

The mixed final over 515mts was taken out by Pattie's Return owned by Glenda West and trained by of Leppington. Connections were very pleased with the dog's first win (following six minor placings) as the race was worth $1500 to the winner plus a of $1000. This race was also the G.B.O.T.A. Members Bonus Race, and as the West family bred, own and train the winner, and are also G.B.O.T.A. members, another $300 goes to them.

Having his first Gosford start proved to be no problem to Fuel Tank who made it three wins from his last three starts, when he scored a smart 23.17 win in the 4/5 grade 400mt. Trailing the speedy Willie Be Wild to the turn, Fuel Tank finished strongly to post a 31/4len win.

Snowy River Man took out a roughly run 600mt event for Wyee owner trainer Gerard Targett. Showing good early pace Snowy River Man went straight to the front, and while the rest of the field was getting into trouble, he sailed along in the lead to just hold off the very unlucky Symmetry by 1/2len in 35.81.

Brazen Journey made it back to back Gosford wins with a smart 30.39 victory over the 515mt trip. By ex Long Journey this Jeff Ducker owned and trained black dog certainly likes the Gosford circuit, having recorded 3 wins and 3 seconds from just 8 starts here.

After almost 7 months on the sideline, Elite Haze returned to Gosford to record a strong win in race ten. Trained by Nathan Burnett at Neath, Elite Haze last raced in October 08 when she also led throughout to win at Gosford.

Gosford race again next Tuesday night with the feature event being the $5,000 to the winner John Varley Memorial over 515mts.
