Loren Harborne’s Chasing The Dream
31 year old Central Coast trainer Loren Harborne achieved a life-long dream on Saturday night, notching up her first ever win at Wentworth Park.
Harborne and her family have been involved in the greyhound industry for many years as breeders, owners and trainers, however Loren was keen to pursue a training career on her own and was deservedly rewarded this past weekend.
“I've been an owner for a while, but to win a race at Wentworth Park as a trainer is so exciting and such a different feeling.”
Chasing The Line is the only greyhound Loren currently has on the race track, and he didn't disappoint his trainer with a sensational nine and quarter lengths win in a smart time of 29.98 over the 520 metre journey.
“I was so excited when he won, I expected him to go well though because he has been trialling good at the track.”
“He doesn't have the best box manners, but I'm just hoping he keeps improving and my plan at this stage is to try and get some more wins with him at Wentworth Park.”
“I purchased him at 11 months old and have only been training him for the past eight weeks, so hopefully he has some more improvement in him.”
Loren is a familiar face around the Hunter Valley circuits as a kennel attendant at The Gardens and Gosford, and has gained a wealth of knowledge from several astute trainers. Harborne attributes much of her success to the support from her family, who assist her whilst she attends to other tasks.
“I have a very supportive family who help me out a lot and I couldn't do it without them.”
The son of Cosmic Rumble and Lily Appeal recorded his third career win on Saturday night from start number ten, after cracking his maiden at Richmond in 30.88, followed by a best of the day performance at Goulburn in 25.70.
“I'm very pleased with his progress so far and hopefully he can improve his box manners. Although I plan to keep him at Wentworth Park for the moment, I might look at taking him to Queensland in January for some feature events.”
