Jumping straight to the lead from box two, the four and a half year old was able to dictate the pace to run a handy 23.29 in winning by 1 1/4 lengths.
He looked well placed in a fifth grade after having won nine races at the track, and ran accordingly. Trainer Danail Armfield has done a wonderful job in getting this old “stager” back on song.
Three greyhounds that had run placings at recent starts were able to finally break through in their respective maiden events. Hands On, who was only having his second start in this area, scooted around a packing field at the top turn to win in 24.01 for Andrew Watts and Helen Cooper, whilst Sebastian Vale defied all attempts to run him down, when he won by 3/4 length in 23.89. He had put the writing on the wall with a solid second at Lismore the previous Tuesday.
Ashleigh’s Charm was having her first look at the Casino track when she won the Mc Donald’s Pharmacy stake in all of the way fashion. Trained by Annette Castles, she romped away from her rivals to win by 6 1/2 lengths in a handy 27.95. Due to their consistency, all three were well supported in betting transactions.
Training honours on the day went to Brad Northfield who landed a double. Well performed bitch Bralyn Sal finally drew near the rails, and held out a determined Pretty Norris to win the Casino RSM Club Free For All in a personal best time of 22.85, while Bralyn Beau swept around the leaders before saluting by six lengths in the Charcoal Inn stake. He clocked the best time of 27.63 over the 484 metres.
Proper Lucy continued her good form when she scored in the Sportingbet stake for Charlie Northfield. In winning her sixth at the track, she ran 27.75 in defeating Jaydo’s Neglect by 3 3/4 lengths. The runner up has her foot on the till.
Jeffrey Smith’s Goarder stepped up in grade but still led throughout in the distance stake clocking 35.72, and Carrie Nation continued Dean Turley’s good trot when she was also an all of the way winner clocking 23.42.
Local conditioner Gavin Lowe had his second winner in a week at Casino when Commando Cloud finished hard to win the Ranvet stake in 23.45, and Red Bomb held off late challenges to clock 23.53 for Rod Herr.
Casino will race again next Friday afternoon.
