Palawa King takes out Bold Trease with scintillating run
Palawa King has produced a professional staying display to win the Bold Trease at Sandown Park on Saturday night.
The $5.50 chance with greyhound bookmakers jumped poorly and found himself last, but the Jack and Maree Smith chaser worked his way into the 715m Bold Trease and stormed home to win his third group 1 race for the year.
The victory in the Bold Trease further entrenched Palawa King as the no.1 stayer in the sport, having won the Queensland Cup at Albion Park and the National Distance Championship at the Meadows.
Palawa King had drawn close to the leaders rounding the final turn, and eventually zipped past them, to beat home Ritza Piper ($8.50) and Zoha Bale ($3).

The race is named after the champion dog Bold Trease, who recorded 51 wins and 34 placings in his illustrious career.
Later in the night, Aussie Rocks produced a stunning upset to win the Melbourne Cup, with favourite Big Energy relegated to second.
