Plummer strikes twice in Bundaberg Young Guns 460m heats
David Plummer had his ticket for next week’s Bundaberg Young Guns 460m stamped twice after the heats on Monday with two great wins from his kennel.
Roger Ring ($2.60) won his heat after running fourth in the Bundaberg Young Guns heats over the longer 531m last month and then running last in the final, showing he preferred the drop in distance here.
On Monday he dictated terms from the boxes to go straight to the lead before using the final bend to extend his advantage.
A late surging challenge from YoYo Lad through on the rail looked to spoil the chances for the Plummer dog, but he held on to take the win.
Thomas Lowe prepared the second and third place-getters in YoYo Lad ($3.80) and Leo Gibbs ($35) to also earn their spots in next week’s final.

Roger Ring is a Zambora Brockie x Foxy Fireball dog who has won eight times and placed another eight times from 26 career starts.
Heading north from Brisbane in February, he has had 10 starts at Bundaberg for four wins and three placings.
In the second heat, Sir Banjo began as a $2 favourite from the yellow box but missed the start, although he made up for his mistakes to take third and scrape into the final.
CQ Syndications manager Jaycin Campbell didn’t hold back any punches regarding his dog’s performance.
“I thought he began OK but did not seem to have any muster. Pretty plain,” he said.
“He ticked the box I guess qualifying for next week, but can’t see him figuring in the finish if he serves that up again.”
Classy Nebo ($5.50), a Hooked on Scotch x Vince A Bella dog trained by Plummer, beat home another Lowe-trained dog in Orson Trinity ($8) as Sir Banjo took third.
Classy Nebo (15:4-2-0) has previously won over the track and distance three times having started his racing career in January this year.
