The postponed Sale greyhound racing event that was supposed to take place on Sunday, December 10, 2023, but was postponed to Monday, December 11, 2023, has now been abandoned.

The deferred greyhound meeting scheduled to be held at the Sale and District Greyhound Racing Club (SDGRC) has now been canceled due to track conditions.

The decision was made with concern for the safety and well-being of both the greyhounds and the participants involved.

Just yesterday, Greyhound (GRV) said, “Track diagnostics have been monitored post-harrow last Monday, and inclement weather yesterday provided cause for concern.

“The decision to postpone the meeting has been taken to allow more time to ensure the racing surface is suitable for racing.

“With the meeting including key lead-up races to the and other feature events, it was determined a postponement of the meeting, rather than abandonment, was the best option for all concerned.”

Greyhounds of the calibre of , , and were to have raced over the Sale 640m trip in preparation for the Sale Cup heats on December 17, 2023.

However, with more rain overnight, GRV said today, “After assessing the condition of the track, GRV concluded that it would be too risky to proceed with the scheduled meeting, potentially endangering both greyhounds and participants.

According to a GRV statement, “The cancellation of this event demonstrates GRV's unwavering dedication to prioritising the welfare of all individuals involved.”

While understanding that this may disappoint greyhound enthusiasts and participants alike, GRV emphasises that safeguarding everyone's safety must always be their priority.

Despite that sentiment, many of the Sale feature race aspirants' cup preparations have now been interrupted.
