Sir Prize Looks The One To Beat In Silver Chief Final Showdown
Outstanding young chaser Sir Prize looks the greyhound to catch after favourably drawing box two in the Group 1 AJS Silver Chief final over 525 metres at The Meadows next Saturday night.
The son of Hallucinate and Prize Princess improved his record to 10 wins from just 11 starts with an amazing all-the-way victory in semi final three, stopping the clock at 29.70, just a length and a half outside Turanza Bale's track record, set in November 2009.
Jumping perfectly from his awkward draw of five, Sir Prize gave nothing else a chance, running splits of 5.05 and 17.68 (both Best of Night) before running home in a brilliant 12.02. Victory next Saturday night would give trainer Bernard Seymour his first Group success from, amazingly, the first greyhound he has trained.
But his task will not be made easy, considering the depth of talent to qualify for the $50,000-tothe- winner final. Kilty Lad – a recent winner of the Group 3 Young Star Classic at Cannington – will be one of Sir Prize's main dangers, despite drawing box five in the final. The Kellie Bravo trained chaser led all the way to win the first semi final in 30.05, but does boast a PB of 29.82 at the track.
Other semi final winners included Stefan Bale, who will start from box one in the final after running down speed machine Marbro Man in 30.15, while Perfect Fancy did it the hard way to score in 30.49 after finding interference early in his race. Both are capable of running slicker times next Saturday night on The Meadows' popular New Years Day meeting.
The Group 1 AJS Silver Chief semi finals also illustrated what a great loss sire Brett Lee was to the greyhound world, with he and three of his sons (Hallucinate, Superman and Where's Pedro) responsible for six of the eight finalists in the famous Group 1 final.
