The bitch that trainer Darren McDonald described post race as a “Bold Trease re-incarnated” unleashed her trademark run home to clinch the 2014 Group One Bold Trease at Sandown at Sandown Park on Friday night.
A clear run in transit is always the key for the daughter of Mogambo and Off Springer (Flying Penske – Skullring) and, while she was slightly hampered leaving the home straight the first time, she could not of asked for a much better trip.
Ever the consummate professional, Sweet It Is took full advantage of the uninhibited run home to give the early leaders a cold and storm away to salute by a cool 5 1/2 lengths in a rapid 41.56.
Halfway down the back straight, Space Star took over and looked a big hope. Sweet It is began her move as the field passed the 715 metre boxes and made ground in a hurry.
Swinging for home, that familiar lightning turn of foot was as evident as ever as the 28kg black bitch hooked to the outside and put paid to her rivals in the twinkling of an eye en route to her fourth Group One victory.
Space Star hung on for second placing with rank outsider Reap The Benefit (5) working home for third placing.
Of the beaten brigade, excuses could not really be made for any of the runners with the winner simply too good and interference reasonably minimal.
The win was Sweet It Is’ 15th from 47 career outings and sees her career earnings reach a whopping $584,065.
