Twenty-four dogs find new homes on Greyhound Adoption Day

‘Abner' found his new home with India, Jack, and Cal at the Day at .

The Victorian Greyhound Adoption Day was a success at The Meadows on Sunday, September 24, as twenty-four greyhounds found loving homes.

The event garnered interest from adopters for all the available greyhounds.

Kourosh Afarinesh from Lalor quickly made his move by adopting ‘Memphis', his first greyhound.

He expressed his excitement about finding the dog after spending 15 months preparing his backyard.

Kourosh specifically wanted a unique breed, and he was overjoyed with his decision to choose a greyhound.

‘Abner' (pictured), a fawn-colored greyhound, also drew a lot of attention.

After consideration by the GAP staff, Abner was matched with India Armstrong and her family, who had traveled all the way from Maryborough in search of their companion.

India, along with her son Cal and partner Jack Klemm, were thrilled to have found their match in Abner.

Jack shared his fondness for greyhounds, saying that he had previously owned one that used to accompany him wherever he went.

“They're amazing dogs. I love their sleekness, their size, and their gentle nature.

“They're such beautiful dogs,” Jack said.

It was a day filled with happiness as these beautiful dogs found their forever homes.

Mick, Patricia, and Brent Gaskin, a family from Bundoora, happily welcomed their greyhound into their home after being captivated by the beauty of ‘Noel'.

“For the past three years, we've been considering adopting a greyhound,” Mick shared.

“In January, we sadly lost our Australian Silky Terrier Cross at the age of 22.

“We believe that a greyhound would be a good fit for our family.

“We've done a lot of research and spoken to a few people in the neighbourhood with greyhounds, and we like that they are placid, easy-going couch potatoes,” Mick said.

A total of 39 greyhounds were available on the day.

Any dogs not adopted will return to the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) Tullamarine until they find their ‘forever homes'.

GAP Tullamarine is situated at 444 Melrose Drive, and it operates from 10 am to 3 pm every day except Sundays.

No appointment is required for prospective adopters.

Official greyhound adoption programs can be found in every state in Australia.
