Typhoon Sammy rips through field into Traralgon Cup Final

Typhoon Sammy in action

We had to wait until the final heat of the Cup last Friday night, but gun chaser did not disappoint, carving out the journey on the newly opened J-curve circuit in a new time standard of 21.53 over the 395m.

Exiting from box four, the -trained chaser jumped smartly and streaked away to win by 4.1 lengths at the finish over 's Gold Skulltula.

Melbourne Cup runner-up Lala Kiwi was next best on the clock with a slick 21.61 performance from box one and the only interstate chaser, , began poorly before streaking through the field to secure his place in next week's final in an impressive 21.66 for trainer .

In-form trainer Dave Geall continued his winning ways, qualifying two runners with Hill Top Jonah and Ferdinand Boy, looking to add to his recent Melbourne Cup success with Koblez.

The all-important box draw will once again play its part in this week's final proceedings, with stepping cleanly a crucial factor for every chaser.

Based on early statistics from winning boxes, both four and seven share the most number of wins so far with six each, while five and six are next best with four wins each. These stats suggest fastest qualifier Typhoon Sammy should get his chance from the seven alley.
