Racing fans will have an extra incentive to be trackside to cheer on super stayer Miata on RSN Sandown Cup night – if she wins someone will be driving home a brand new Mazda MX 5 courtesy of Berwick Mazda and the Victorian government’s Raceday Attraction Program.
Tonight at Sandown, Miata prepares for her attempt at the Sandown Cup by taking on the best eight greyhounds nominated in the $10,000 to the winner Lizrene Classic.
Last week Miata set the track alight in a 595m solo trial at Sandown Park running 33.77 (9.20, 23.19, run home 10.58).
Starting from box one tonight over the 715m Sandown staying journey, Miata should get every opportunity to lead all the way and take out her 23rd race win from just 26 starts.
Already a winner of three Group races, Miata has captured the imagination of the greyhound racing public setting track records over all distances, and earning almost $300,000 in prize money, which sees her ranked 39th in the all time greyhound prizemoney record list. But a win tonight, followed by a successful Sandown Cup preparation will see Miata rocket in to the top twenty greyhounds of all time, just behind superstar Brett Lee.
“As a special promotion, if Miata wins the RSN Sandown Cup, one lucky spectator is guaranteed to win a Mazda MX-5 valued at $52,000. But even if Miata is unsuccessful, someone on-course will still win a Mazda 2 valued at $17,000,” said Minister for Racing Denis Napthine
Berwick Mazda Dealer Principal Grant Handley was equally excited to be part of such an exciting program.
“Miata is one of the most exciting and popular greyhounds we’ve ever seen in Australia,” said Mr Handley.
“And the MX 5 is one of the world’s favourite sports cars. It’s a fantastic fit – experience the thrill of one of greyhound racing’s iconic races and you could win a one of the world’s iconic sports cars.”
To be in the running, patrons must be trackside on Thursday 24 May. Patrons who attend the meeting on Thursday 17 May, featuring the final of the Berwick Mazda Harrison-Dawson, will have an additional chance to enter.
There will also be over $10,000 in prizes and other giveaways on offer on course over the two week RSN Sandown Cup series.
