WA Star Uno Reltub Retired After 49 Win Career

After 49 wins from 106 career starts the trained Uno Reltub is now set to enjoy retirement and a possible career at stud.

“We tried for the 50th win but he just didn’t want it, he just couldn’t run like he could before. A lot of little things have held him up through his career.” Trainer Linda Britton explained.

At the ripe age of five, Uno Reltub has had his fair share of injuries, but it was old age that forced his retirement.

Uno Reltub broke onto the racing scene in early 2011 with victories in his first seven starts at both and .

The son of Primo Uno – Shelly Reltub has a sizeable list of achievements that he has earned through his speed out of the boxes and desire to chase. In December 2011 Uno Reltub wrote his name into the record books, recording a of 22.23 over Mandurah’s 405 metre distance from box four, which still stands today.

Uno Reltub’s first appearance came in the 2012 Perth Cup when he exited from box six and ended up in fifth place with the win going to .

2012 was a great year for the red brindle chaser who made the trip to to participate in the Group One National Sprint final from box two. He was unable to claim victory on foreign soil but did WA and his trainer proud, finishing fourth.

“Running in the Nationals in Tasmania was probably the standout!”

Uno Reltub’s 2012 campaign came to a sudden halt in the final when he broke his ulna. that saw him head to the sidelines with what Britton believed could have been a career ending injury. After spending 238 days on the sidelines Uno Reltub returned to winning form at his home track of Mandurah.

After 38 starts back from his lengthy spell for 14 wins, the last few starts saw his old legs struggle to keep up with the pace of some of Mandurah’s best short course sprinters. It was then that Britton and owners Gary and Craig Weston decided that it was time to call it quits for one of their best dogs, who won them over $195,000.

Now that Tank is enjoying the life of retirement, Britton and owners Gary and Craig Weston are going to put their WA bred chaser to stud.

“We really want to put him over bitches of our own because I know that he wont be a commercial sire.”

“Uno Reltub is so tenacious and such a good chaser and a really tough dog. I think that’s what is lacking in a lot of dogs these days.”

“The bitch he goes over will need a bit of strength and possibly a bitch that is a little bit soft, something that needs a bit of chase thrown into them. He lacked a little bit of stamina but his best attribute was his early pace and pure speed.”

“I don’t have any bitches here at the moment, we will wait until a bitch comes up that is really suited to him, if it’s now or six months down the track, he is obviously going to have a home for life.”

Uno Reltub had the support of handler and kennel-hand throughout his racing career and Luke is now more than happy to teach him the ways of retirement, with Tank more than content on Luke’s couch.
