Townsville Greyhound Club to close in March for track works

Townsville greyhound news

Racing Queensland (RQ) has confirmed the Townsville Greyhound Racing Club will close in March 2025 for four weeks to replace the running rail.

Work is set to begin on March 5, following the last meeting on March 4. Trainers north of postcode 4806 will receive a $120 travel subsidy to compete at alternative venues.

RQ has assured stakeholders that updated race programs will be provided, and the QGOLD series will be rescheduled once the works are complete.

The closure aims to improve long-term racing infrastructure and safety in Townsville, ensuring a more consistent and reliable racing surface for trainers and greyhounds alike.

During this period, RQ will work closely with contractors to complete the upgrades efficiently and minimise disruptions.

Further updates, including alternative race scheduling and potential additional support measures for affected trainers, will be provided as the project progresses.
