Albion Park greyhound betting preview & best bets | Thursday, 11/5/23
Albion Park is set to host 12 races on Thursday night from 6:42PM local time. The feature race on the program is the “Newhaven Stud Farm Brisbane Young Guns” run at group 3 level where the winner will take home $30,000. There's also three cracking top grade races set to be run over all distance categories featuring the likes of Sorority, Jewel Bee, Adulate, Shipwreck and Springtime Jet.
Best Bet: Wendy Rocks (Race 4)
Wendy Rocks has shown promise from the early stages that she'll make a nice distance dog and that looks to be coming to full effect. Having her first crack at the 600m, Wendy was very unlucky when finishing second beaten by four lengths. Jumping from box three, she was the victim of a large jam on the first turn which took her back to near last. This check didn't demoralise her as she ran home stoutly and had “back me next time” written all over her. She was next sighted at Casino 620m where she was backed into a long odds on favourite and won convincingly by 13L. She was only one length off the Casino 620m track record. John Dart has placed her to perfection in this restricted win 600m at Albion Park and from the low draw, it will just be a matter of whether she can get through the first turn unscathed. Given she does so, she's extremely strong and will give her rivals a galloping exhibition.

Arguably one of QLDs most exciting dogs, Shipwreck looks set to tick over his career earnings past $300,000 when returning to headquarters off a brilliant win in the Rockhampton Cup. It is fair to say before his recent successes in Rockhampton, he had been racing below his best failing to score a win in multiple races to start the year. You could not have been any more impressed by his last start where he came off the canvas and roared away with the $75,000 feature final. Those confidence boosting wins will have done him the world of good as would have the fortnight freshen up which allows him to recover from the multiple trips to Rockhampton. Jumping from box three, he should have the speed to land in a lovely trailing position. He has proven time and time again that he can win off the speed with a well timed run and that's what I expect him to do. Unsure how to assess the equal favourite in Springtime Jet. Was airborne before going up for the Rockhampton Cup where he suffered a large check and has since finished down the track at Albion Park. Might be running sore or frightened.

Best Value: Blue Hornet (Race 8)
The 2023 Brisbane Young Guns is a cracking fixture with potential QLD superstars in waiting right down the list. Blue Hornet is one of the more experienced gallopers on the list and he brings some mouth watering credentials to this race. He would easily have the biggest motor in this race and that is obvious as he recently broke his mother's, Champagne Sally, Ipswich 520m track record. Since then, he has dazzled over the 630m at Ipswich, 366m at Capalaba and 520m at Albion Park which shows his versatility. There are three heat winners in this race and Blue Hornet was by far the most impressive visually of this back. Jumping a well supported odds on favourite, he was only fairly into stride. Facing a mammoth task, Blue Hornet was able to pick through his rivals and eventually roared to the lead scoring by upwards of four lengths. He ran home in a ridiculous 12.57 weaving through traffic. Tonight, he draws the squeeze box however, there's plenty of speed in this race. If he lets the speed go, he has the desire and ability to pick through his rivals and cause a minor upset. Close enough, he's good enough.
