NSW Greyhound Racing strike avoided with stable funding levels

A potential strike by Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) clubs has been avoided following a meeting between GRNSW and Greyhound Clubs NSW (GCNSW) on Monday.
After two months of discussions, the meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain the funding levels for the upcoming 2024–25 racing season.
This announcement follows the discontent expressed by NSW TAB Clubs in April when they were asked to accept a 20% cut in funding as part of GRNSW’s cost-saving initiatives due to a decrease in wagering.
The proposed reduction was expected to result in savings of up to $2 million.
Club managers argued that rising costs across all aspects of their operations left no room for reductions.
One manager noted that while they recognise the challenges faced by GRNSW, the reality is that clubs are dealing with constraints within the trading environment.
With the agreement reached on Monday, clubs are now able to make plans for the financial year with a sense of stability and confidence.
Despite this development, GRNSW still needs to address the challenge of identifying savings amounting to up to $1.2 million through means.
