Satoshi sets new race record in Vince Curry Memorial triumph

Satoshi cemented his status as one of Queensland’s most exciting young chasers with a race record in the Group 3 Vince Curry Memorial Final (520m) at Ipswich on Saturday night.
Stopping the clock in 30.29 seconds, the promising youngster delivered a historic win in the last-ever edition of the Vince Curry at the Ipswich Showgrounds.
Trained and owned by Ben McCarthy, Satoshi had to overcome an early setback after missing the start.
However, he quickly recovered, railing underneath Moet Magic at the first turn before surging clear down the back straight as the $1.85 bookmaker favourite.
From there, it was a commanding performance, holding a three-length margin at the finish, with Moet Magic filling second place and Strut finishing another seven lengths away in third.

For McCarthy, a rising star in the training ranks, the win was particularly special.
The packed grandstand erupted as Satoshi hit the front, with family and friends on hand to witness the landmark victory.
The moment was made even sweeter by the race’s historic significance, marking the final running of the Vince Curry Memorial at Ipswich.
Satoshi went into the final as the betting site’s favourite, having dominated his heat and semi-final with blistering performances.
His ability to recover from a slow start and take control of the race on the first turn demonstrated maturity beyond his limited experience.
The unbeaten son of Jungle Deuce and Dynamite Lucy is the fourth greyhound trained by McCarthy, who is already building an impressive reputation, having previously won the Ipswich Derby with Fast Eddie.
With three wins from three starts, Satoshi’s future looks bright, and his trainer is already considering his next targets.
With his natural talent and ability to run strong sectionals, a Novice race at Albion Park is the next likely step, but a tilt at the Launching Pad at Sandown in March is also on the radar.
There is also the possibility that Satoshi could step up in distance later in his career, given his pedigree and racing style.
Adding to the significance of the win, Satoshi’s bloodlines are closely linked to runner-up Moet Magic, with both greyhounds tracing back to the legendary breeding program of Ray and Mary Burman.
Satoshi’s mother, Dynamite Lucy, was gifted to McCarthy’s father, John, as a breeding prospect, and the decision to race her offspring is already proving to be a masterstroke.
Satoshi now joins an illustrious honour roll of Vince Curry Memorial winners, including greyhound greats Just The Best, Token Prince, and High Earner.
With a perfect start to his career and a race record already under his belt, this is likely just the beginning for McCarthy’s exciting young prospect.
