Highly regarded Canya All Class faces an uncertain path to the Group 1 Australian Cup heats next Saturday night after suffering a fall in Race 7 at The Meadows, resulting in a five-day stand-down period.

The Jessica Hopkins-trained black dog had been gearing up for a return to the 525-metre distance, but his plans took a dramatic turn when he was brought down in a tightly contested free-for-all.

Jumping well from box four at , Canya All Class was among the early speed before being squeezed approaching the first turn, causing him to unfortunately have a heavy fall.

The Meadows Race 7 Replay – Where’s Poppy (29.97)


$3.60 second favourite with the top greyhound bookmakers, Where’s Poppy avoided the carnage, finding a gap on the rail to storm to victory in 29.97 seconds, holding off Colac Kidd in a thrilling finish.

Thankfully, Canya All Class was later confirmed to have sustained a right back muscle injury, with stewards imposing a mandatory five-day stand-down period following a post-race veterinary assessment.

The April 2022-whelped son of Shima Shine and Spritley Ebony has been one of the sport’s most versatile stars, boasting 16 wins from 28 starts and career earnings of $179,760.

His accomplishments include a track record-breaking performance in the Sale Cup heats and a Group 1 Topgun Stayers triumph over 730 metres last November.

All greyhounds from Saturday night’s race 7 are scheduled to contest in the 2025 Australian Cup heats next Saturday on February 8 with a hope to secure the prestigious Group 1 race.

It remains to be seen if Canya All Class will be among them, but his resilience and class have been on full display throughout his career, leaving connections and fans, including us here at Australian Racing Greyhound, hopeful for a swift return to the track.
