Anything Less Wins 2014 Magic Maiden Final
Anything Less (8) announced himself as a star of the future by winning the Group Three Sportingbet Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.
The regally bred son of Bekim Bale and Casey's Angel (Spiral Nikita – Leprechaun Yap) clocked a personal best of 29.62 for Victorian trainer Glenn Rounds en route to scooping the $25,000 winners cheque.
Beginning the best he had all series from the extreme outside, the hulking 35kg black dog asserted his authority on the event early, leading to the post in a first section of 5.41, but his job was far from done.
Strong chaser Zipping Weston (2) landed in second early, ensuring that Anything Less could ill afford to make any mistakes or he would pounce.
However, in an imperious display of strong front-running, Anything Less gave nothing else a remote sniff of victory, scoring by 2 1/2 lengths from the gallant Zipping Weston with Zipping Bruno (4) in third, some seven lengths away.
Of the beaten brigade, usual fast beginners Paua To Roar (1), Brasko Khan (3) and Tommy Brislane (6) were not away as well as expected and struggled from that point. Gilgamesh (7) left the boxes well but found early interference as the eventual winner crossed her while Organic Choice (5) also missed the kick and found herself a long way back early.
Anything Less Remains undefeated in three outings and has already earned connections a tidy $32,800 in prize-money.
