Ennis’ on a triple Group 1 mission

HUSBAND and wife training duo Jamie and Brooke Ennis are currently experiencing a sensational run of form, with a chance this Saturday night to notch up their third Group 1 final in just four weeks.

Champion sprinter My Bro Fabio kick-started the Ennis’ campaign in Perth last month, saluting in the Group One Perth Cup Final worth $140,000. Jamie Ennis made the trip across to Western Australia, experiencing some sweltering weather conditions in the process.

“Every day over there for two weeks was at least 38 degrees,” Jamie said.

“For him (My Bro Fabio) to put up with that heat and still come out and win that final the way he did was sensational.”

“I went over to Perth and had a friend fly over. It was a great win, however it’s not the same as when you have all your family and friends at the track watching.”

After being invited to participate in the $100,000 Group 1 Temlee at The Meadows just two weeks later, My Bro Fabio mowed down his rivals to secure his second victory at the highest level in a fortnight, much to the delight of handler Jamie.

“He does some freakish things.”

“It was a great night to have all our family and friends there.”

My Bro Fabio finished second in a heat of the Group 1 Australia Cup last week, however Ennis admits this is just a minor set back as he prepares to make his Wentworth Park debut later this month in the $250,000 to-the-winner Group 1 Golden Easter Egg series.

“The Easter Egg series will suit him really well because you don’t have to win a heat and semi to get through to the final.”

“It’s about luck in these types of races and the box draw will play a huge part.”

“I’m bringing a few up for the series and hopefully we can have some luck.”

Ennis will be looking to secure the Easter Egg final for a second consecutive year, after Tonk blew his rivals away last year from box two in a fast time of 29.62.

“Tonk wasn’t the best dog in the series last year, but took advantage of a good box draw in the final and won it.”

“My Bro Fabio is a better dog than what he was, however it all comes down to what happens on the day.”

Ennis will now put the polish on two runners in Saturday night’s Group 1 Superstayers final, with Lady Toy to exit from box one and Binker’s On from box three.

Lady Toy showed outstanding stamina in her heat win last week, clocking a time of 42.58 on a drenched Meadows surface.

“Her time didn’t reflect how well she went. The rain significantly affected the track and she also ran on the worst part of it.”

“I’m very happy with her drawing box one in the final this week. Even though Space Star is the dog to beat, she has a really good chance if things go her way.”

Lady Toy ran a brilliant second to the new Meadows 725m track record holder, Space Star, last month, in the Group 1 Galaxy Final over 715m at Cannington.

“She ran such a good race and was only beaten a length by Space Star in that final.”

“I’m expecting her to go well on Saturday and I’m confident she can definitely run a place.”

Lady Toy and Blinker’s On are currently $2.80 and $14 respectively with Bet 365 which are giving new customers up to $200 in bonus bets to place on the Group 1 Superstayers final
