JACKIE Wilson is still in disbelief after her bonny bitch Miss Bamsy (Fabregas x Miss Chicki Nov ’14) took out Friday night’s Group 3 Mandurah Mail Birthday Cup (405m).

Sent to the boxes as the $2.70 top elect, the black bitch didn’t let her supporters down, railing through to take the lead off box one and charging clear to defeat Marydoll (Elite State x Flying Sienna Jun ’14) by two lengths in a fast 22.53.

Wilson, who only has a handful of greyhounds in work, said it was a dream come true for her and the owners to taste success in WA’s richest race over 400m.

“It’s a little bit surreal – the phone has been running hot and Facebook is busy with lots of messages and things from her owners, it has been great,” Wilson told Australian Racing Greyhound.

“The owners are over the moon – we are all in awe of her and how she has progressed since she got here.

“We couldn’t be any prouder of her.”

Miss Bamsy has now won 16 of her 39 starts with nine placings and has now earned $53,370 throughout her career.

Remarkably, Miss Bamsy was purchased as a tried racer mid last year, with her owners paying just $2,000 for the modestly performed racer which had won just one race from 18 starts for two different trainers in NSW and SA.

Wilson says she is still at a loss as to why Miss Bamsy has turned her career around in WA, having now 15 of her 22 starts for her Forrestdale-based conditioner.

“There is no explanation for it – I don’t do anything special,” Wilson said.

“She is a bit of a lunatic – she isn’t the type of dog you can get out of the kennel and sook up – but perhaps she likes the smaller kennel. Who knows?

“I really can’t give you a reason for it – but whatever it is I am not changing anything!”
