Million Dollar Chase returns to NSW greyhound tracks in 2024
The 2024 Million Dollar Chase (MDC) is set to take place in locations across regional NSW showcasing the world’s most lucrative greyhound series, with heats beginning in late August 2024.
From Gosford to Grafton and Goulburn to Gunnedah, 15 destinations in the state will host events leading up to the final on October 18, where a single greyhound will walk away with a prize of $1 million.
The action commences with heats at Maitland on August 26, followed by the MDC Regional Final at the venue a week later.
The top three contenders from each of the 15 Regional Finals will progress to the semi finals at Wentworth Park on October 12.
In addition, City Qualifiers are scheduled to take place at Wentworth Park on October 5.
Greyhound Racing NSW’s (GRNSW) Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Wayne Billett, highlighted that while the main event will be held at Wentworth Park on October 18, the true essence of the 2024 MDC series lies in its impact on NSW.
Since its inception in 2018, this series has grown significantly drawing enthusiasm and excitement from communities as it travels from town to town.
“The series has come a long way since that first year and across that time I have been fortunate to have experienced the enthusiasm and excitement in regional communities around NSW as the MDC rolled into town,” said Billett.
“One of the main aims of the series was for regional venues to host elite racing and attract the best greyhounds and we have seen evidence of that across the years, and we expect it again in 2024.
“But another very important benefit has been to the economy and greater communities where the series has travelled since its inception, and since that inaugural event in 2018, the Million Dollar Chase has demonstrated the importance of greyhound racing to regional NSW.”
The MDC schedule includes not only MDC events but also two Group events; the 2024 Group 1 Dapto Megastar on September 12, and the 2024 Group 2 Black Top on September 27.
Those who secure the three spots in each final will earn a spot in the MDC Semi Finals.
Additionally, the top three finishers in the 2024 National Sprint Championship Final, in Adelaide on August 24, will receive invitations to compete in the MDC Semi Finals.
The regional heats and finals will take place over five weeks leading up to the last regional final at Gosford on October 1.
The Million Dollar Chase Final stands as the world’s richest greyhound series with a single race prize pool of $1.6 million.
