2009 Sky Racing Topgun First Round Invitations Announced
Twenty four first round invitations to nominate for the 2009 $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Sky Racing Topgun were released by the Topgun selection panel last night following nearly 4 hours of intense discussion.
The expert 9 person panel consists of a number of industry media, race callers, graders and managers; all of which have an extensive history and knowledge of greyhound racing.
The panel has a mandate to select the best field taking into account both group race results and current form when sitting down to discuss possible candidates.
The panel also have a policy whereby exceptional performances by a greyhound between the first and second Topgun panel meetings may justify the extension of a late invitation. The panel have their eye on a number of chasers, and will keep a close watch on some notable races in this period including the Group 1 Paws of Thunder, Group 2 South Australian Oaks & Derby and the Group 2 Geelong Cup series.
The second Topgun selection meeting will be held on Friday 9th October where the panel will put forward a case for the 24 aspirants and will ultimately decide on the final field which is to be announced at the Meadows on Saturday 10th October.
