2011 Topgun Field Finalised
The field and box draw for the Group 1 Sky Racing TOPGUN – to be run over 525 metres on October 22 at The Meadows – has been finalised, with the country’s best chasers vying for bragging rights and a winner’s cheque worth $125,000 to the winner.
To highlight the quality of the field, the eight finalists have amassed a total of $1.3 million in prizemoney and won 10 Group races between them, with one lucky chaser ready to add his name to an outstanding Group 1 honour roll in a fortnight’s time.
Master trainer Graeme Bate continues his remarkable year with three of his chasers (and one reserve) qualifying for the Group 1 Sky Racing TOPGUN. Amazingly, the TOPGUN is one race that has eluded the Lara trainer, and he again faces a tough ask to break the hoodoo after his Group 1 champ Radley Bale (box
six) drew poorly.
Kilty Lad – already a Group 1 winner at The Meadows – has drawn the coveted red box in the Group 1 TOPGUN. The son of Superman and Sisco Train has won four of seven starts when wearing the red vest.
The home state of Victoria has four representatives in the Group 1 Sky Racing TOPGUN, while New South Wales has three starters, including the brilliant track-record breaking Prince Diablo. Queensland is the only other state represented, with Group 1-winning chaser Bogie King earning his spot with solid Group form.
