2014 Group Two WA Derby Preview

Eight chasers will pull on their respective rugs to take part in Cannington’s Group Two Derby on Saturday night. The $40,000 to the winner final is made up of just the one interstate chaser, Darren McDonald’s Tiggerlong Amigo; who is set to start favourite despite jumping from box six.

In the heats he found the front in a matter of seconds and didn’t look like being beaten, as he extended his winning margin to over nine lengths. The white and black dog stopped the clock in the fastest qualifying time of 30.31, which earned him favouritism heading into the race.

David Hobby’s Prang Monelli looks to be WA’s best chance from box two. His heat performance saw him come strong after missing the start. At 8.09pm Perth time the 530 metre boxes will open and the 2014 Derby winner will be named.
