2015 Group 1 National Futurity tips & betting preview
THE 2015 Group 1 National Futurity will feature eight sensational females in a sub-30-second battle for the $75,000 winner’s cheque on Saturday night.
Last year’s race went to long shot Rue De Kahn for Dean Swain, who will be looking for back-to-back Futurity finals when Ella Has Class jumps from box five. The local chaser is extremely consistent with a scintillating 29.68 personal best over the track and distance.
Other NSW representatives will jump from boxes six and seven respectively. Jason Mackay’s Zipping Midge looks a star in the making but will face a tough task from the green while Jinjing looks to be the early leader despite being drawn out wide in the seven.
Andrea Dailly has a strong presence, with her quartet drawing boxes one to four and Spring Leaf clearly the dog to beat from the inside. She will be joined by litter mates Polly Bale, Dyna Nico and Kerrigan Bale from the very successful High Earner x Maple Bale mating.
Jeff Britton has a chance to score Group 1 races on opposite sides of the country on Saturday night, with Weblec Belle in the Futurity and Star Recall in the Perth Cup final at Cannington.
Let’s hear what the trainers had to say and how Australian Racing Greyhound’s Brad Bugeja thinks the race will be run …

| Tom Dailly (Kennel representative): “She can really run and I think the red will suit her well, hopefully she goes good. The last six weeks she has been going very well and running consistently.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Racing in ridiculous form at present and she reeled off explosive sectionals in her brilliant 29.50 heat win. From the red she should be able to poke through and hold them out at the first bend and if she does I can’t see them getting near her when she is running 29.50 on the lure. She can miss away at times but she does muster speed well and she has the ability to come from off the speed. Dyna Nico might give her a few troubles early but she should finish in the top two.” |

| Tom Dailly (Kennel representative): “She is a strange little bitch, she has got some ability, but the others in the race are probably a little bit quicker than her. She has had a couple of looks at the track now though, hopefully she can get a clear run.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Has turned in two strong heat placings in recent weeks and she appeared to show a heap of improvement at her second look at the track. This is clearly her toughest test to date but she is highly talented when on song and if Dyna Nico causes some interference at the first turn, she might sneak through into a prominent position mid race and she is very strong in the run home. I think her winning chances are slim but a top-three finish isn’t beyond her.”

| Tom Dailly (Kennel representative): “Hopefully she can come out running, last week she missed the kick a little bit but she drove through nicely. She really has to come out nicely though so she doesn’t use a lot of her energy to get to the lead because she is not overly strong.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Brilliant beginner and looks the likely leader, her last 50m is always a worry but she appeared to hit the line a lot better last week and if she carves them up at the first turn she might be off and gone with the prize. Looking at the fixed odds, at the $4.50 mark she is big unders as the distance is a real concern, however, if she gets out to around the $7 or $8 mark closer to start time, she then becomes value and is worth an each-way ticket.”

| Tom Dailly (Kennel representative): “Every time she has gone around Wentworth Park she has run well and she is drawn well on the outside of Dyna Nico. She likes to use a bit of the track so I am just hoping she can get a clear run coming out of the boxes.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Will be well fancied and has been flying in recent weeks. The box draw I feel is actually an advantage because she has an explosive beginner in Dyna Nico underneath and she should bring her across in the early stages and she also has an average beginner on her outside who also moves right in the first 30m. She isn’t my top pick but she is airborne at the minute and if she settles in the top two she will be right in the mix at the end.”

| Dean Swain (Trainer): “When the draw first came out I was a little bit concerned but at the end of the day I don’t think it is too bad because she runs in the middle of the track. If she can begin well I think she can be in a forward position on the first turn.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Has been racing in consistent style and is capable of just about anything on her night, however she is quite unreliable and she doesn’t have that explosive turn of speed to make her a major factor against the top-liners. She has won here previously in a sizzling 29.68 but from the middle pin she is going to need too many things to go right for her to feature.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Highly exciting talent and she appears to be improving with every run, last week she hit the line strongly to score in a handy 29.82 and I think with a clear run she is capable of getting down to the 29.60 mark. My concern with her is that she does take a couple of strides to get going and with the speed drawn on her outside she is likely to cop a little bit of crowding as they head into the first bend. She is obviously a winning chance but I would just include her in my exotic bets. Be sure to keep an eye on her in Group races in the coming months as she has bright future ahead of her.”

Chris Nutt (Trainer): “She is doing the best she can considering her age and her experience. She is strengthening up, I was really happy with her run last week, I thought it was easily her best run. I would like to see her begin just a little bit better, if she nails the start she can run low 5.30s to the first turn.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Explosive beginner and after a disappointing heat effort where she tired badly, she bounced back with a stronger effort in her semi-final. Her early speed means that she should put herself in the race but I don’t think she can cross Dyna Nico early, so if she doesn’t lead she is likely to start to tire a lot earlier than normal and therefore she won’t be a major player.”

| Jeff Britton (Trainer): “She can handle box eight but I think she is going to need some favours from the dogs inside her. I don’t think she will crash to the fence, I think she will run straight, so it is not a bad box for her but not a lot of dogs win at Wentworth Park from box eight. She is very strong – so if there is a speedster out in front that can’t run it out that well then she would be a chance of picking it up.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Perfectly drawn in the pink and she is my value bet in the event, she likes to scout wide in her races and she has the ability to ping the lids at times. She is armed with an explosive turn of foot once she hits the ground, so with an even getaway she should be able to settle just behind Dyna Nico early and she should run over the top of her in the concluding stages. She is around the $7 mark and I think that is a great bet.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Star in the making and if she happened to gain a start she would probably be my top pick. She has won four of nine over this journey and a couple of those wins have been in sizzling times and on those nights the track wasn’t in great condition. Unlikely to start but if she happened to draw out wide she would be a serious contender.”

Jeff Britton (Kennel representative): “She probably struggles a bit over the 520 but if she happened to jump she would be a chance of leading the race. If she could find the front then who knows what could happen, especially around that first corner.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Explosive beginner who surprised a few when scoring in the first round of heats, last week she couldn’t find the early lead and therefore she found the going tough. Unlikely to start but even if she did she is unlikely to hit the scoreboard.” |
