2015 Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup tips & betting preview
THIS Sunday will see the running of the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup over 531m, with some smart greyhounds engaged, this race is a truly wide-open affair.
On Tuesday afternoon, six heats were run and won, with Vadim Roz’ Gun Mccain the fastest heat winner in a sizzling all-the-way display of 30.37. The son of Spring Gun and Flame Mccain has won an astounding 51% of his career starts and has never been unplaced at the Gawler circuit.
Brotherly duo Troy Murray and Jarrad Murray dominate the final with five runners in total, with Troy’s pairing of Emerley Lover and Kalden Balerion both clocking a time of 30.71. Jarrad’s best performer was Cosmic Wild who clocked the second fastest time of the heats in 30.59.
Who’s Doing What is a litter sister to Group One winner Star Recall and can figure in this final, provided she gets a good start from box seven and has room to move in the early stages.
The final will be decided at 8.31pm EDST, with winning connections to receive $26,700, second place will win $6,500 and third place will secure $3,200.

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Veteran chaser who has been a great chaser for a long time in Victoria. He had been struggling in recent months, however he turned his form around with a top heat placing last week. The draw is a big plus for him tonight and he should be much better for the run last week as it was his first look at the track. I’m not overly convinced about his winning chances but I think he has great place prospects.” |

Vadim Roz (Trainer): “It’s a very hard final, any of the right dogs can take out the race. My dog has a good box, which will help his chances of winning, all he needs to do is duplicate what he did in his heat win and jump well and lead the field, he will be very hard to run down. He’s as close as you will get to a perfect greyhound.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Continually does everything right in his races and he has won a staggering 23 of his 45 career race starts. He generally jumps and runs and when he finds the bunny he is a very hard chaser to get past. He was easily the fastest qualifier last week and with the lack of speed in the red he should be able to find the rail and the bunny early on. He is quite short but it’s hard to take him on because he is so reliable at box rise, flying at present and really deserves to win.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Enormous talent who is currently racing in career best form. He was slow to begin in his heat but he was able to whip around and reel them in off the back straight and he then powered to the line. Tonight I’m a little concerned that there is too much speed drawn around him and he is likely to get squeezed out soon after box rise. If he comes out running he is a great chance but I’m happy to risk him tonight.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Another great local talent and he is armed with blistering speed soon after box rise. He can miss the kick at times and he will also crash left but once he hits stride he is really powerful and he can handle a few knocks. He has only had the 13 career starts so he lacks a bit of experience but I think he could be the value in the event, if he gets away on terms he has the speed to cross and he appears to be getting stronger with every run.” |

Jarrad Murray: “I think he should go good, but you don’t know what going to happen at the first turn. Our main danger is Gun Mcbain.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Made his SA debut last week and he was ultra impressive when scoring in a smart 30.60. He was a tad slow to begin in his heat but he got a nice rails run through at the first turn and once he got into some open space he went into overdrive. He is going to settle back in the field again, so I think place claims appear best for him tonight.” |

Jarrad Murray (Trainer): “I think if he can jump he can win it. It’s a very hard field and there’s going to be a lot of speed heading into that first turn.”
ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Extremely hard dog to follow, has always struggled over the 500m trip at Angle Park but he is two for two here and on both occasions he has come from off the speed to win. The rails draw was a big advantage last week and although he didn’t lead he was still able to settle fairly close. From the wide draw tonight he is unlikely to get across and he may find the going tough.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Is the outsider in the field but I do feel that she isn’t without some hope. She is suited to the wide draw and he overcame quite a few difficulties when scoring in her heat last week. She has scored in fast times at numerous tracks in her career and she has the ability to show early speed when given room to muster. You can’t tip her with any real confidence but at $50 to one she is worth a nibble each way.” |

ARG’s Brad Bugeja: “Has won a whopping 30 races in what has been a stellar career and he has won seven of 14 over this journey. Last week he was second up from a spell and he anticipated the start perfectly and he was able to assume control soon after box rise. From the pink tonight he may have trouble getting across and therefore I dont think he will be a major player.” |
