GOSFORD greyhound track is the place to be this Friday night, with the running of the Woy Woy Poultry Gold Cup Final, with successful connections set to receive $40,000 in prize money.
Last year’s event was taken out by Awesome Project, who’s now dominating the Victorian racing circuit.
Zipping Willow will start a short priced favourite for Hunter Valley trainer Jason Mackay, after a sizzling all the way display last week in 29.48. Ideally drawn near the rails, this Wentworth Park specialist will be looking to notch up her thirty fifth career win and crack the $200,000 prize money barrier.
Last week’s fastest final qualifier Are Jip is awkwardly drawn in box five, however will only need some luck in running to challenge this field. The Kristy Sultana– trained chaser clocked a near record time of 29.36 in his heat and will have plenty of support on Friday night from punters.
Mentioned by many as one of the greatest Gosford Cup fields ever assembled, all eight greyhounds have a considerably strong chance of securing the win, and kicking off their 2015 racing campaign in style.
Dean Swain (Trainer): “I’m really with the box draw and just hoping she can begin well and put herself in the race. Her fitness will be a lot better this week and after a good trial on Monday morning, i’m expecting her to go well.”
ARG Comment: Battled on gamely last week, finishing second behind Jewel Action in fast time. Has the early pace to overcome this awkward box draw and can put herself into the race during the early stages.
Mark Gatt (Trainer): “The box won’t help her, but I was really happy with her run last week behind Zipping Willow and hopefully she can begin well and get across from this draw.”
ARG Comment: Led the field until the home turn in her heat last week and finished third. If she gains a start will be one of the front runners, however lacks the stamina to match it with some of these.
