All Caution Super Impressive

Darren McDonald secured a return ticket to the scene of one of his greatest triumphs when blitzed his rivals in the Victorian final of the Championship at Sandown Park tonight.

Beginning well from box 4, All Caution ($7.60) led clearly into the first turn while the favourite Mogambo ($1.40) collided with Turanza Bale ($17.10) collided. All Caution capitalised and raced away to win by 4.5 lengths in a slick 29.67.

It was a welcome return to form for All Caution having only recently resumed from a four-month lay-off following a serious tendon injury. All Caution, who finished third to kennelmate in the 1 Schweppes Melbourne Cup in November last year, improved his record to 18 wins from 41 starts and took his career prizemoney over the $100,000 dollar mark.

McDonald is no stranger to success, with dual Group 1 winner Pure Octane claiming the National Title at Wentworth Park in 2005. McDonald also prepared Nitro Nori for the National Sprint at Sandown Park in 2007, and Itza Bee in the Championship at Launceston in 2006.

Joining All Caution in Sydney for the National final will be beaten favourite Mogambo.

After beginning only fairly from box 1 and overcoming interference at the first turn, Mogambo held out the fast finishing ($10.10) for second by the narrowest of margins. Trainer is also no stranger to Nationals success with his father Gary winning the 1981 with Shamrock Jewel.

All Caution and Mogambo will now meet representatives from across Australia in the $50,000 to-the-winner Group 1 Rapidvite National Sprint Championship final to be held at Wentworth Park, Sydney on Saturday 30 August.
