Andad’s Boy Last To First Win At Casino
A phenomenal chasing effort by Andad's Boy saw him get home in the Westlawn Finance stake at Casino last Friday. Sent out as one of the popular picks, Andad's Boy missed the jump hopelessly from his inside draw, and was a conspicuous last as the field settled down.
Balancing up, he caught the tailenders as they went into the back straight, and then started to weave his way through the field. By the time they were turning for home, Andad's Boy had reached the lead and proved too strong to win by 3/4 length.
The Jeff Smith trained galloper has always shown strength in his four wins, and the trainer maybe eyeing off the rich Blue Paws series over 484 metres on April 17th.
Candle Guy was another greyhound who showed keeness in winning the Mc Donald's Pharmacy maiden. It was somewhat of a mixing affair with some of the runners very “green,” but Candle Guy stuck to his guns and went straight to the wire to win by 1 3/4 lengths. The winner is owned by veterinarian Elizabeth Brown and trained for her by Dean Turley.
Bacardi Breeze showed she has a bright future when she made it two wins on the trot in the Madsen's Meats fifth grade. A little slowly away last week, she amended her box manners on Friday to jump straight to the lead. Running a fast first section (8.58) on a slow track, the Toni Northfield trained runner raced away fron her rivals to win by 6 3/4 lengths clocking 23.17, the best of the day over the short course.
Two other members of the Northfield clan were also in the winner's circle. Kooringa Jeckel won for Cheryl and Mitch, when she prevailed in a two dog “war” eventually getting the better of Forever Burnin' to run 23.77, whilst Jessie's Joy came out “buzzing ” to lead throughout for Glen Northfield, running 23.66 in a 1 1/2 length victory.
First starter Super Trump “trumped” his opponents with a good 23.22 win for in form trainer Peter Simpson, while Smokes Liftin' ran 23.43 for Rob Andrews in the Ranvet stake.
Kelsey Kate returned to her best track to lead from the first bend in the Casino Rural Traders stake. Having her first run over the 484 metres, she handled it with ease to run 27.71 in a 3 3/4 length win. She's a litter sister to the afore mentioned Andad's Boy, and she has now had eight starts at Casino for six wins.
Benny Russell was sporting a huge grin when Jaydo's Neglect won the COW FM Radio stake by three lengths in 28.03, and the well performed Miss Sarajevo took over in the back to take out the Distance race for Shane Robinson. She won by three lengths and ran 35.96.
After a week's deluge the grass track stood up in fine form as proved by the win of the ever consistent Gelegnite Kid. He's another who likes the Casino track, and he went straight to the front to win by a mere nine lengths in 27.48, the best over the 484 metres.
No racing next week (Good Friday) but Casino will be back the following week with another star studded card of racing.
