Another Kurageous Effort Rewarded At Angle Park
On face value, it appears difficult to name the fastest greyhound currently going around in South Australia. Significant Bit for Bob Isaacson, Fire Tyson for Tony Lagana or even Rob Harnas' veteran Point Two Over would lay claims. Actually, there are many candidates, and the ‘fast-class' races have been delivering a different victor each and every week, showcasing the evenness of racing in the festival state. However, with another outstanding sub-thirty second run, Kalden Kurageous from the Troy Murray kennel may have well put his hand up to claim that title.
The collaboration between Dan Biddle in Western Australia and Troy Murray has been very successful in the past, with the likes of Kalden Mayhem and Kalden Komoto amongst others having long-established, high earning careers in South Australia. And while Kalden Kurageous seems destined to match the feats of his predecessors, his ability to lead in his races is something that gives it an extra box to tick.
Last night he lined up in a strong mixed 3/4 grade race, and from box one he made a mockery of his opposition. With an opening sectional of 4.47, he was always going to be hard to beat once on the bunny, and the ease of his five length margin was the exclamation point.
The son of Collision and Abbadale Affair was whelped in April 2010, and has made the trip between Perth and Adelaide several times in his 25-start career. Although he has won three times at Northam (30.03, 29.61, 29.96 ) and once at Cannington (30.78), his form at Angle Park is far superior. From the seven times he has been around the 515m Cardigan Street journey, he has amassed five wins and two thirds, posting times of 29.62, 29.68, 29.61 and 29.93 before this most recent win in 29.72.
Connections and supporters of the dog may have been a little disappointed when he only managed well beaten third placings in both the Perth Cup and New Sensation, and probably wish the Group 1 Adelaide Cup was closer than its scheduled October slot. It remains to be seen whether the dog will appreciate the Melbourne metropolitan layouts, should it head back to the Eastern coast, or whether the finish-on lure used in South Australia is the cause for the high speed consistency. Regardless, with the runs we have seen unleashed around Angle Park, Troy Murray should be enjoying a feature win somewhere around the corner.
Ronald Schadow is another local trainer who will be excited about the future of his team, with his Where's Pedro x Teelah litter already delivering the goods around the state. Victa Brooke was the most recent member of that family to bring home the bacon, with the first Breeders' Prelude going the way of the blue brindle bitch last night in 29.98.
Victa Scott was also engaged in the race, however it couldn't match the strength of his sister, who positioned herself second upon settling before pouncing in the second half. The win brings up her twelfth in only 22 starts and she should be very comfortable in making her way through the grades.
Teelah has been a brilliant producer for the Schadow kennel, with her first litter to Where's Pedro producing Victa Pedro (20 wins) and Victa Troy (19 wins). Her next mating to Surf Lorian has seen Victa Victoria , Sam and Dora win 19 races so far, before this repeat mating to Where's Pedro, which also appears destined for more joy.
The girls stole the stage in another high quality event, where the speedy My Little Star was too good once again. The field which included Miss Avocet, Lucerne Lass and the highly talented Jessenia Bale – who was first up for nine months – were not able to match the 30.10 run of My Little Star. In a tough performance, the daughter of rarely seen sire, Carlisle Jack, came from mid-pack to claim the prize, ahead of the fast finishing Lucerne Lass and the tiring Knocka Agogo who gave bold sight early in the race.
My Little Star has shown a tremendous ability to find the line first, now increasing her tally to 18 wins, with eleven of those around Angle Park. Her best time of 29.99 is somewhat surprising considering the talented dogs she has put pay
Lucerne Lass for Petar Jovanovic put in another solid performance, finding the line well. With three narrow defeats in a row, she looks cherry ripe to land the top prize sooner rather than later.
