Another Successful Litter Emerges In Tasmanian Greyhounds
In recent years the Tasmanian greyhound breeding industry has been blessed by the performances of several outstanding litters.
Initially it was the Where’s Pedro – Stylish Dotty litter which has produced the winners of 150 races, then it was the Collide – Ricky’s Angel litter which includes the classy Rewind, closely followed by the hugely successful Head Bound – It’s A She dynasty, which is currently dominating the racetracks.
Hot on the heels of these litters of outstanding performers, the Paddy’s Flame – Cash Box litter has emerged and already five of the litter of two dogs and three bitches have greeted the judge.
Justin’s Dream (4 wins), Noni Girl ( 3), Jomad (3), Scrawny (1) and Carolina (1) are all displaying plenty of promise and appear likely to well and truly pay their way in the future.
With the exception of Justin’s Dream, they are raced by Kindred farmer Murray Mace who purchased them on the advice of Leith trainer Gary Johnson.
Mace was familiar with the particular breed, having previously reared and raced a litter by Collision from Miss Moneybox, which included the winners Swamp Road Lass, Swamp Road Flyer, Macey’s Dream, Fox Farm and Macey’s Favourite.
“Cash Box is a daughter of Miss Moneybox and because we experienced success with her litter, it was decided to purchase these pups,” he explained this week.
“Justin Ebery, a grandson of the breeder, retained a pup and I purchased the remainder, with only Starlena, Arwonga Boy and Good Ole Mad yet to win a race.”
Gary Johnson prepares Justin’s Dream, Noni Girl, Scrawny and Starlena, while Beaconsfield trainer Julie Bannon has been entrusted with the care of Jomad, Carolina, Arawonga Boy and Good Ole Mad.
“It has been a great result for all concerned including Julie, who hadn’t been experiencing the best of luck with her team of late,” Mace explained.
At home on his Swamp Road property, Mace is also rearing a later litter from Cash Box by Bit Chili and is naturally hoping that they will also inherit the family ability.
Meanwhile the Johnson complex has been enjoying a great run of success, which has seen it feature in the winners circle on five occasions so far this week (excluding last night’s Tattersalls Park meeting).
On Monday night at the Tote Racing Centre, the kennel was represented by the winners Scrawny, Justin’s Dream and Overeem and then the following day at the Devonport Raceway, Macklelroy and Buckle Up Gaye greeted the judge.
Former Victorian chaser Mackelroy (Premier Fantasy – Runway Model) was impressive in winning the betfair.com Juvenile at his initial Tasmanian outing and then Buckle Up Gaye (Velocette – Buckle Up Tina) ran right up to her best form by winning the Tasfreight Grade 5 event.
Johnson is impressed with Overeem (Path To Power – Dance Token), which has two of his last four outings for Victorian owner Paul Westerveld.
“Overeem was previously with Russell Watts at Moorleah and has a bit of ability, he can probably win another one or two in coming weeks,” he said.
