Aston Gozo delivers in Mount Gambier Cup for team Pallotta
Aston Gozo delivered on her promise in emphatic fashion on Sunday, claiming the 2025 Group 3 Cadillac Racing Mount Gambier Cup Final (512m) at Tara Raceway in a fast 29.75.
Drawn ideally in box two at $2.20 odds with the top greyhound bookmakers, the Robert Pallotta-trained chaser was only fairly away before muscling her way to the lead past early pacesetter Aston Apatite.
From there, the daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Aston Gwen fended off a determined chase from Sharp Thief to prevail by 1.75 lengths and hand Pallotta his biggest win as a trainer.
The victory capped off a brilliant campaign for Aston Gozo, who had trialled a slick 29.50 at the track before her dominant heat win and her performance in the final didn’t disappoint the backers or connections.

Sharp Thief ran a terrific race for Stuart Sharam, trailing the winner throughout and never shirking the task, while local contender Darcy Dakota, winner of the Murray Bridge Cup, closed late for third. Oregon Caldwell finished in fourth.
Now a winner of 14 from 45 starts and more than $75,000 in prizemoney, Aston Gozo is expected to head back to Sandown for a tilt over the 595m trip.
For owner Ray Borda, the win is further proof of the success of his Aston-bred line, with Aston Gozo adding to the legacy of sire Aston Dee Bee and dam Aston Gwen.
The win was also a proud moment for Pallotta and partner Jacqui Berry, who have turned their 20-acre Ripplebrook property into a serious training base over the past four years.
