AGRA’s Run of the Month for January 2009 has been awarded to South Australian star sprinter the ever popular Scull Murphy for his brilliant performance in the South Australian Interstate Challenge on January 8th 2009.
The Bob Isaacson owned and trained sprinter has been a grand performer for some time particularly in his home state on his favourite track Angle Park. It was his 30th win over the 515 metres, and although an easy $6.50 in the betting he was in great form after two FFA wins on the trot.
Showing some extraordinary early speed he lead to the first turn and was never headed.
Sections were also a fast 4.44 and 16.91 and a quick over all time of 29.62 but most importantly was the beaten brigade the “Scull” had been the giant killer leaving super star sprinter El Galo in his wake six and half lengths in arrears no match for the Angle Park specialist on the night in question.
El Galo was to have his revenge two weeks later in the final of the Adelaide Cup and Jason Thompson created another furore over his behaviour when his post race coments were derogatory toward Scull Murphy. In the Cup the race was almost a two dog war with El Galo only just prevailing over the “Scull” in the shadows of the post.
However on the night of the Interstate Challenge Scull Murphy flew the local flag in no uncertain terms.
Both dogs are set to do battle again at the Meadows on February 14th in the Group 1 Temlee invitational and now Thompson has firmly put Scull Murphy’s trainer Bob Iasaacson offside with his comments, there may be more than just greyhounds going to war on the track that night.
Scull Murphy has raced 67 times for 37 wins and 17 placings and his current prizemoney earnings stand at $116,695.
As usual there were some outstanding runs recorded in January featured some young up and coming greyhounds plus some seasoned performers and as ever it was a difficult decision coming up with the AGRA Run of the Month.
AGRA congratulates owner-trainer Bob Isaacson and Scull Murphy on being judged the AGRA Run of the Month for January 2009.
