Awareness Message – Updated Advice to Mitta, Mt Beauty, Tawonga & Eskdale areas
The Mitta Little Snowy Creek fire is continuing to burn out unburnt pockets of bush in steep and rugged terrain mid way between Mitta and Mt Beauty, near Dorchap Range track and Trappers Gap Road, west of the Dorchap Range (CFA NE Map reference Map 300:H13).
This fire is burning in thick regrowth forest and is approximately 460 hectares in size.
Combined fire-fighter teams from Victoria, NSW and the ACT have actively strengthened the control lines today.
A pocket of active fire on the southwest edge continues to cause difficulties for crews so this fire will have several water bombing drops again this afternoon. Two fire-bombing helicopters will be working out of the Mt Beauty airbase, so residents in the Mt Beauty area can expect significant aircraft activity until later today.
DSE & PV Crews will be deployed for next couple of days for patrolling, blacking out and mopping up.
This fire still poses no threat to surrounding assets or community.
Residents in these areas need to remain vigilant and should listen to ABC radio for further updates and advice.
There may be increased amounts of smoke in the area from this fire.
Road users are advised to take extra care as road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility from smoke.
Even though this fire does not currently pose a threat, people in high risk bushfire areas are reminded to have a bushfire survival plan ready to implement during the summer period.
Continue to listen to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire.
