Bad Boy Sniper on target for Group 1 National Derby title

FREAKISH New South Wales sprinter Bad Boy Sniper turned heads, after a sizzling 29.43 performance last Saturday in taking out a semi-final of the Group One .

Exiting from box four, the son of and Isseymiyake was never headed in an all the way display, defeating second platter getter Zipping Carter by four-and-three-quarter lengths. The -trained chaser clocked splits of 5.41 and 17.79, with a flying run home of 11.64, the fastest of the three semi-finals.

“He's been getting better every week. His last win at the track he went 29.5 and last week he went 29.4,” said Magri.

“He went to Melbourne last month and that trip did him the world of good down there.”

This lightweight chaser, which weighs in at just 28.8kg, has an impeccable record of 6 wins and 2 minor placings from just 11 starts and recorded his 11th career win last Saturday from start number 24.

Bad Boy Sniper will again jump from box four on Saturday night for the third consecutive week at the metropolitan circuit and Magri is confident of his chances in the Group One $75,000 to the winner final.

“I'm hoping he gets a bit of luck in the final, because he will need it.”

“It doesn't matter if he doesn't win because there will be other opportunities for him.”

Last week's outstanding personal best performance was just another impressive entry on his resume, having recorded a speedy 30.64 over the 535m distance at Richmond and a fast 29.59 performance last month at Park over 515m.

You could forgive Magri for looking forward to upcoming events at Wentworth Park, such as the Group One , however this humble trainer from Austral is remaining grounded about his charges future engagements.

“I'm not planning anything for him at this stage, because when you make plans usually something goes wrong,”he said.

“I'll just take it week by week with him and hopefully he stays sound.”

“He's a very good dog and chases hard, so I'm sure there will be other races for him out there if he doesn't win on Saturday.”

Bad Boy Sniper is currently $3.20 to win the Derby with who are offering new customers up to $501 upon sign-up to have a bet on the race.
