Banjo Boy Triumphs in Dominant Cranbourne Cup Win
The Ken Virtue trained Banjo Boy (1) has led from start to finish to claim the Group 2 Ken Hickey Concreting Cranbourne Cup. After being cleared to run earlier in the week after sustaining a spiking injury in his heat win, Banjo Boy went to the boxes as favourite and he didn't disappoint.
He recorded 30.03 for the 520 metre trip and won by two and three quarter lengths. Fastest heat winner Bookkeeper (5) failed to begin as smartly as last week and was squeezed out to last past the post the first time. The youngster Keybow (7) put in a very impressive run for second. He was posted wide for much of the trip and was as much as five lengths off Banjo Boy down the back. The other wide runner, Nobby Bale (8), ran on strongly for third, one and three quarter lengths behind Keybow.
The Cranbourne Cup win was Banjo Boy's 15th win from 28 career starts and the big striding Vee Man Vane-Off Springer (Flying Penske-Skullring) dog has now earned over $100,000 for connections.
This dog & his owner deserve all the success possible. It would have won the Melbourne Cup if it wasn’t scratched by officials. It is the best dog in Australia. Injured last week….amazing heart…Congratulations Tommo!
@David With all due respect when Banjo Boy regularly beats Group class opposition he might then be considered in the elite class. Very nice dog but “best dog in Australia” ? Please check those mushrooms.
