Barking Bad wins 2017 Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup
BARKING Bad caused a massive upset when taking out the Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup (515m) on Tuesday night.
Stepping from box seven as a $23.90 shot, the powerhouse greyhound got a lovely run into the race on the outside of defending champ Knight Sprite (box six) in the run to the first turn.
Heading down the back straight, Knight Sprite was leading the way, but was soon joined by Barking Bad, with race favourite Ando’s Mac (box one) back in third spot.
Running past the 600m boxes, Barking Bad was able to cruise to the front, kicking clear of Knight Sprite to score by one-and-three-quarter lengths on the line in a blistering 29.35.
Ando’s Mac, last year’s Melbourne Cup winner, rounded out the placings back in third, with Black Hole Sun (box four) filling the exotics in fourth position.
Trained by Michael Eberand, Barking Bad has now won 14 of his 40 starts with a further 16 minor placings, whilst his prize money earnings have now been elevated above the $76,000 mark.
Well done Mike, you have worked very hard with a difficult greyhound ,your diligence has certainly paid off.
