2007 Bathurst GOTY Flying Mitch may be in the twilight of his career but showed he has lost none of his zest for racing by finishing too powerfully for another veteran, Rain King and the talented Merleen in a driving finish clocking 26.09.
Trained locally by Ashley Lamb the son of Just The Best and Agreement has now won 21 races over all four distances on the Bathurst loam. Earlier in the day Lamb’s promising youngster Hot September utilized the eight box to perfection with a fast 30.15 success over Electric cargo and Arrhythmia.
Chilla gave Orange mentor Derek Kerr his first Bathurst winner this year when a near all the way 30.63 winner in the opening event easily accounting for a maiden filed. He didn’t have to wait long for his second winner as pint-sized Ring Of Pearls scored a determined win over Myalla Ash in the fourth, also a maiden, in 18.03.
Woodstock conditioner Steve Cleary landed two heats of the Kelso Cellars Sprint with Trent Lee X Penny Lehigh litter-mates Myalla Fever and Myalla Lehigh. Fever posted 17.92 in downing Hypo Lady and Kookabunna Bing whilst Myalla Lehigh set the time standard with a flying 17.77 effort to defeat dead heaters Uno Tutu and Major Ego by four lengths.
The first heat saw the Les Whitton trained Janderra’s Magic storm home to defeat Triple Trouble and Big Red Rig in 17.79.
Dubbo chaser Miss Taro led throughout from the rails in racking up a 30.35 victory for Jeanette Foley downing Rick Board’s litter-mates Gandhi’s Heart and Remember Gandhi.
Respected conditioner Ron Seymour has been fairly quiet in recent months but broke through with Exotic Miss who registered a slick 26.14 in beating the heavily backed Total Ambush.
Simple As That came out running to secure the last in a nippy 26.22 from Mr. Manbo and Miss Kelly Rhino for Portland mentor Carolyn Hore.
