2016 Group 2 Bendigo Cup – best odds, tips and betting preview

ASTON Bolero is a huge chance of breaking through for his first group victory on Friday night when he contests the Group 2 Bendigo Cup (425m) final.

Trained by , the son of and Aston Dream is a seven time group finalist, with his closest finishes thus far being seconds in both the Group 2 Maitland Cup and the Group 2 Warragul Cup.

A winner of 27 of his 45 starts, Aston Bolero is drawn ideally in box two on Friday night, with online bookmaker Sportsbet installing him as the $3.50 favourite to take home the cash.

Rated the best chance to topple the favourite is ($4) which comes into the event following his tenacious heat performance.

The brindle and white dog was only fairly away in his qualifier on Sunday and had to produce a powerful finish to hit the lead right on the line in a speedy 23.68.

A dual group winner and track record holder, Unlawful Entry is well positioned out wide in box seven, with a clean getaway sure to see him figure in the finish.

Anthony Azzopardi’s Ultimate Magic ($4.40) is also given a big chance in the $47,000 to the winner event and comes into the race having won three of his past four including his 23.74 heat victory.

The son of Magic Sprite and Daydream is normally a reliable beginner, but he will have to be at his best to cross from out wide given the calibre of greyhounds in this event.

Another greyhound given a big shot is recent Traralgon Cup winner Pantera Nera at $5.50 with Crownbet. The black dog is as consistent as they come and is normally a brilliant beginner, however he may struggle to find the top against a high speed line-up from the squeeze box.

The only other greyhound under double figure odds is Proven Kodiak ($6.50) which will jump from box four. The Wayne Vassallo-trained dog has a stack of ability, but can be risky at box rise which may be his undoing in this race.

Next best in the market is Shepparton Cup winner Gotta Get Back ($15) which has drawn the coveted rails box, while the ultra-consistent Zoltina’s Legacy ($21) will jump from box three.

Rounding out the field is ($34) for Jeff Britton which is facing an extremely tough task from box six.

The Group 2 Bendigo Cup final is race eight on the card and is set to jump at 9:28pm.
