Greyhound Racing Tips For Saturday 15th August 2009

Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound's Greyhound Racing Tips for Saturday 15th August 2009 with Tips tonight from The Meadows (Victoria), (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia).

Another nice small profit last night from just the 5 tips finding 3 winners and a second, the best of those the maiden final winner at Richmond who paid over $2.60 at Sportsbet and $2.80 at Iasbet. Importantly though we deliberately did not include at in our selections as we saw him a risk, and punters money went to the wall there with him getting beaten as a long odds on favourite. Sometimes its as much about what we don't say, as what we do.

Good night of racing heading our way tonight with heats of the Victorian National Sprint Championship at The Meadows and both heats series of the New South Wales Championship and at Wentworth Park.

While Mantra Lad has ensured his trip to Perth for the National Distance Championship by just making the Victorian National Distance Championship final due to the AGRA ranking priority, Victoria looks certain to have two in to the final with the top 3 ranks in the stayers and 4th ranked Brislane not competing in the New South Wales National Distance Championship heats. Fifth ranked Gold Slammer is competing but too far back in the rankings to get the call up.

However the sprinters series will be highly interesting with Fedex a surprise late scratching tonight. Fedex would have been a moral to go to Perth through the AGRA ranking priority off box 1 tonight and just had to make the Victorian final to qualify for the call up but misses all chance by not taking his place. Sixth ranked Hanify's Impact is also scratched, whereas seventh ranked Queen Lauryn was also a scratching, making Aston Trivett the effectively fifth ranked greyhound.

Second ranked has already made the Queensland National Sprint Championship final and is in with a hope of the priority pick, but only if Velocette who is now the highest ranked greyhound cannot win his way through to the Victorian National Sprint Championship final.

Third ranked Trew Millions, fourth ranked and fifth ranked Aston Trivett all compete in the Victorian National Sprint Championship heats tonight and still have some hope of the AGRA priority call up to the Group 1 National Sprint Championship final. Equal seventh ranked Dashing Corsair is still in with a hope having already made the Queensland National Sprint Championship final, while ninth ranked Drink Driver just kept his hopes alive by scraping in to the South Australian National Sprint Championship final.

Equal seventh ranked Devine Road competes tonight in the New South Wales National Sprint Championship heats; and Miss Slick now becomes the fifth ranked greyhound in name only with the West Australian Sprint Championship heats still to be drawn, although she is among the nominees. Dyna Forte who competes tonight in the Victorian National Sprint Championship heats rounds out the top ten hopes for the National Sprint Championship final AGRA rank priority selection.

With Greyhound Racing coming at us from The Meadows (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia), let's recap out betting advice for tonight's tracks.

The Meadows races over the 525m, 600m and less frequently the 725m distances and the track definitely favours railers; it is almost impossible to make ground once you get wide on the track at The Meadows. The inside 3 boxes are favoured over the 525m, and the inside 4 boxes over the 600m. The outside boxes are a decided disadvantage over the both the shorter distances.

Wentworth Park went from being a very fair track to a leader biased track with the addition of “transition turns” to the corners in the mid 90's. Leaders have been advantaged ever since that track modification and consequently red are small advantage over both the 520m and 720m distances now.

Cannington is one of the better two tracks which does tend to give greyhounds off the speed a chance to run on. Both the 530m, and 642m distances favour the inside boxes and the 1 box has a slight advantage over the 715m distance.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Heat 1 – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 5 – Box 1 – Jamaican Bolt

Deadset race in two here with the scratching of Hanify's Impact. Cindeen Shelby is still searching for her first win back from a long break after being in exceptional form back in April. Hasn't been racing poorly but hasn't been winning either. Meanwhile Jamaican Bolt look destined to get a great run here from box with quick beginner Nikita Berriman likely to lead but not run the trip out. Jamaican Bolt managed a good 30.03 Sandown win 2 starts back and has PB of 29.88 here. Has never missed a place from box 1 and has huge claims at odds.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Heat 2 – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 1 – Fabrice Bale

Hard to tip against iron dog and last start Group 1 winner Trew Millions here but he will have to fly the boxes to win this tonight. Dyna Lachlan in box 2 looks likely to push forward and has won 4 of his last 5 starts in very good style, but much like the first race Fabrice Bale just looks likely to get the right run off box and is hard at the finish and fancy, he'll be close enough get past Dyna Lachlan in ther un.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Heat 3 – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 6 – Velocette

Recent Group 2 winner Velocette gets his chance to head to Perth here with a few greyhounds in the race boxed upside down and a few with little or no hope. Velocette on the other hand does handle all draws and prior to his last 2 failures was in career best form in Brisbane. Have to take on trust he'll find some of that from back here tonight but does have a good Meadows record.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Heat 4 – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 1 – Gardam Prince

Gardam Prince is an excellent one turn greyhound who is yet to really prove himself as a genuine 2 turn star despite a quick win here in 29.79 and a last start 30.36 Wentworth Park win. Would not want to be on him at all had he not drawn box 1, but having done that he does look the leader and should get a big enough break to hold on in the run. Freakish run of good box draws with this dog continues – he has now drawn boxes 1,2,7 or 8 at 19 of his 27 starts and boxes 1 or 8 on 12 of those.

Victorian National Sprint Championship Heat 5 – The Meadows Greyhounds – Race 8 – Box 2 – Turanza Bale

With the devastating late scratching of Fedex and Alotta Mojo out, this last Victorian heat is wide open. Turanza Bale who now has vacant boxes on either side has a terrible box 2 record but has won twice and run second in his past 3 starts from boxes 1 and 3. Have to put the box 2 anomaly on his record down to poor luck based on that (he's only won 1 and placed 6 times from 10 starts out of box 2) and fancy he'll get every chance to go forward and own this race.

New South Wales National Distance Championship Heat 1 – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 1 – Box 6 – Smashing Amy

Not a huge amount of interest about these state heast with just the two heats and only 5 greyhounds taking to the track in each. Effectively all greyhounds will go forward to next weeks final. Smashing Amy is yet to win at Wentworth Park over the distance but has run 3 seconds at all her past 3 starts and won't be running in to Natalie Rass or Forty Twenty in this. Is an on pace stayer who is overdue for a change of luck and is probably better than the rest of these.

New South Wales National Distance Championship Heat 2 – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 2 – Box 7 – Forty Twenty

For a small field this could end up a very exciting race with Smart Betsy likely to lead, Forty Twenty dropping out and Laura's Legacy not completely out of it either. Winner can only come from those 3 and in the small field Forty Twenty, who has won 3 of his last 3 starts looks the clas runner and winner. Forty Twenty ran 1 tenth or 1.5 lengths slower than Smart Betsy here 2 weeks ago, so there is no gimme and he'll have to be on his A game to run Smart Betsy down, who will be a commanding leader past the post the first time.

New South Wales National Sprint Championship Heat 1 – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 5 – Box 5 – Cosmic Rumble

We have a little theory with that few others seem to have picked up one yet – he only goes from wide draws! It's not rocket science as hes starts 8 times from the four outside boxes for 7 wins and started 13 times from the insiude half of the field for just 4 wins. But for some bizarre reason punters keep sending this greyhound around as a favourite off inside draws and virtually igoniring him off the outside? Don't understand it – but from box 5 tonight he's almost far enough off the track to jump on. Is a super quick conveyance when “going” and should go from this draw.

New South Wales National Sprint Championship Heat 2 – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 6 – Box 8 – Certain Magic

Very difficult race with no obvious early pace to set the trend. That usually spells a complete reversal of one greyhounds box manners and a go to whoa bolter or complete chaos. Certain Magic is the best boxed runner on exposed form and can reverse a poor last start 8th from box 5 from her box 8 draw tonight. Has won 3 of 8 starts from the wide box and has a PB here of 30.20 which might just be good enough. Not a race to go heavy in but forced to chose Certain Magic looks the value.

New South Wales National Sprint Championship Heat 3 – Wentworth Park Greyhounds – Race 7 – Box 5 – Devine Road

Very interesting heat with magic City capable of vast improvement. Licence To Dance well drawn, Ticabond in a purple patch and improving, Devine Road the class runner along with in form Zambola Bale and crowd favourite Mutt Lange, who'll drop out and charge late. Multiple group winner Devine Road, who is still very underrated, gets every chance to lead with 3 moderate to slow beginners drawn his outside and with a record that reads 6 wins from 11 starts and 5 from 7 on the track with a PB of 29.97, if he leads not even Mutt Lange will catch him.
